Customer Question

HP desktop will turn on but won't boot up. Heat sink fan comes on for a second but shuts off. All other fans a working bout won't shut down with the power switch. Only shuts off when unplugged

Computer OS: Windows Vista
Browser: Firefox

Already Tried:
I replaced the heat sing and fan. Same symptoms. Turns on for a second when you turn on the power but shuts off after a second.

Hello,

My name is David.

Power down the computer then open the service panel and carefully remove and reseat the CPU. Then remove and reseat each of the memory modules. Then remove and reseat any add in cards (PCI cards). Then leave the service panel open and try booting the computer again.

If the above recommendation does not resolve the issue, please let me know the results so we continue to work on another solution. Thanks.David L41090.0133677894

Doing what you said. Need to acquire thermal grease to reinstall the heat sink fan.Wiped off the old stuff not knowing what purpose it served. I guess we learn as we go. Thanks. Paul
