Please could you help an 'oldie'? I have been using Windows XP and have all my photographs on an external hard drive using Picasa. Recently I changed to Windows 7 and, for whatever reason, I cannot bring up my photographs from my external hard drive in their Picasa format. If you can help me with this please advise me in the simplest terms as I am not very computer literate.Best RegardsIan
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows 7 Browser: Mozilla Already Tried: Advice from Computer shop but this was on machines using XP which did not seem to transfer to Windows 7.
Hi, my name is Sergio. Thanks for allowing me to help you. Before we do some trouble shooting, can you please tell me what format the pictures are in and what you have done to try to migrate your photos to your Windows 7 computer? Also, let me know where you are running into problems. Thanks
Hello Sergio AI cannot help you with format of the photos but I put them in Picasa which is in my external hard drive and when I was still using XP I used E drive/documents and settings/all users/desktop.From this I could open Picasa and see my phots.Doing the same with Windows 7 brings up Picasa but signifies no images. I know they are there because the computer shop has found them. Using their method it came up very mixed and not in the Picasa format.Hope this helps Ian
OK, Ian, that's helpful. Is this a new computer with Windows 7, or was it upgraded from XP?Can you see the E drive from Windows Explorer? To access WE, hold the Window Key (between the Alt and Ctrl buttons on your keyboard) and press E. From there click on Computer and it should display a list of drives, one of which should be your external HD. See if you can see the pictures that way. Once we can view the image files we can work on getting them in Picasa. Speaking of which, you have the latest version installed, correct? Thanks
I followed your instructions but finished up in the same position as when I used the local shops advice.Maybe I should ask the question should I be able to access what I call a XP Picasa on the external hard drive on to my new Windows 7?In answer to the question yes it was an upgrade and the Picasa used that is on the hard drive would be Picasa 3. On my computer it is Picasa 3.9.I cannot find an active accept pay button will you please help with this as well.
OK, first, the Accept button is not active because I have not provided an answer to help you solve the problem. I can activate this at any time, but my goal is to try to resolve the problem first. It sounds like your pictures are fine on the drive, but need to be imported into your picasa library. I can help with this, but I want to be sure that you can access the pictures outside of Picasa first. Were you able to see your drive and files when you attempted to through Windows Explorer? This will help us determine the next steps. Thanks
I am happy to leave my old Picasa photos in my external Edrive and just view or print them when needed.Sorry this is taking so long.
OK, let's see if we can import the pictures directly from the external hard drive. Follow these instructions and see if you can access the pictures:http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=16211Let me know how it goes.ThanksSergio

Hi Ian,
Just checking in on you to see if you still need assistance with this.
Let me know.
Thanks
Sergio
Hi Ian,I'm just following up with you to see how everything is going. Did my answer help?Let me know,Sergio
Dear SirI am going back to stage one and contacting my computer shop. Thank you for your help and advice. I will pay you when advised by you.Ian
Hi Ian, sorry we have not been able to make the progress I hoped. It does not sound like this is a problem that should be too difficult to resolve, but just may require a little more technical attention. I will enable the accept or rating button, but keep in mind that you are not obligated in any way to compensate me. I might suggest that you seek the help of a friend or family member to take a look at this thread and see if he or she can help out. This could avoid another PC shop visit. At any rate, let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for working with me and thanks for your patience. Take care. Sergio
