I have a Dell 1520 laptop with Windows Vista purchased 4 years ago. Recently I have lost some features on my browser particularly the translation to other languages which I need to translate emails.I am now being told my browser version is no longer supported and have been directed to basic HTML version. What do I have to do to recover earlier available features.
Computer OS: Windows Vista
Nothing yet. I am not an expert and don't know which direction to go in.
Hello and welcome to JustAnswer. I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible. Are using Internet Explorer web browser? If it is so, this problem could be related to your Internet Explorer web browser. First, please RESET your IE Settings: HOW TO RESET YOUR INTERNET EXPLORER SETTINGS (Option 1) 1. Then in the message that pops up, click Reset button again to confirm the action. 8. Another way to RESET the IE Settings is through Control Panel. (Option 2) 1. Click Start => Control Panel 2. Jess, I did as advised but now keep getting Dell homepage with Gmail by Google with nothing to click to get my emails which I did before with Sky with whom they were with, so I've had to go back to Sky again to get them. I don't want Gmail with Google.
Also I downloaded Firefox but it's not coming up as a browser feature at the top of my Sky homepage. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi Malcolm, thank you for writing back.At this point, you can set your home page then to Sky, if that is your preference.
Attachments are only available to registered users.
Keep me posted.
Thanks Jess but I had already done this and gone back to Sky to email you back.
The trouble is I'm no further forward then before I started and still can't get my old browser features back including the translation feature.
Have you tried this Google Translate link? => http://translate.google.com/
No not yet but you did suggest this earlier.
Can I use it without leaving my normal Sky web page or sky email. If I leave my sky email page how does it know what to translate?
Thank you for writing back.Basically, the link is directed to the Google Translate interface. You need to copy and paste the block of text that you want to translate there and you will then get the translated version. Are you saying that you want "translate" feature to work right in the Sky website or email? In your browser before, are you saying that there was just a button to click to invoke the translation tool?
Yes - in the features in the top bar of the email page up to a few weeks ago there was a "translate" button to click and whatever was in the email say in French or Spanish it just transferred it to "English" by choosing that language from choices given, and vice versa.
OK. Thank you for that confirmation. Please download and install the Google Toolbar so that you will get that translate feature back. I am doing that but it's asking me to choose 2 options.
1. Set Google as default search in Int. Explor. and notify me of any changes
2. Set my home page to Google.
I don't want other than my Sky homepage so I can't go with number 2, does that also mean number 1 as well?
You can UNCHECK those 2 and proceed.
Jess that's perfect, all I wanted. Kept my home page and got Google translation facility !!
Malcolm, that sounds great! I am glad that it worked this time.Thank you for using JustAnswer.com.Regards,Jess
