Hi,

Do you mean the cd drive is not working, or do you want to remove the cd drive device from the computer?

Thank you.

Customer replied359 days and 20 hours ago.

Hi - its not working, no lights, no spin. The driver is up to date and is reported working fine at device manager

Do you have windows xp, vista, or 7?

Does it show the cd drive letter in (My) Computer?

What's the item you see under CD/DVD drives in Device Manager?

Thank you.

Customer replied359 days and 19 hours ago.

It's a Vista, Mashita DVD-Ram UJ- 850S ATA Device, shown in device manager, DVD RW Drive (D;) , shown in my computer

It may be a hardware issue with the cd/dvd drive, but please try the following and see:

Please click on Start, then right-click on Computer, then click on Manage, then click on Device Manager, then open DVD/CD drives, and right-click on the item(s) under it and click on Uninstall and confirm, then restart the computer and check.

If that does not work, please click http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116, then click on Run now, to download and save, then run the automatic cd/dvd fix.

If that still does not work,

  1. Click Start, and type regedit and then press Enter.
  2. Expand to the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  3. In the right pane, click UpperFilters if available.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  5. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  6. In the right pane, click LowerFilters if available.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  8. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  9. Restart the computer and check.

Thank you.
