I tried to do a system recovery on aspire one d255e...after all the time it took the message said "...could not be performed because of an I/O device error" Now when I try to reboot I get "a disk read error occured. Press crtl+alt+del to restart...can't get past this message.

shut down completely. new message is ...... No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

Sir it seems like either the hard drive is not functioning or the bios settings is incorrect.we can check that

Sir please do not click on accept now.did you try the recovery process from the inbuilt hard drive recovery partition or from disc's?

inbuilt...there is no disk drive on this netbook

OK do you have external CD/DVD drive with you?

no

OK one moment please

Turn on the acer net-book and press F2 repeatedly when you see the Acer start-up screen see if that opens Bios set up screen

the top says insydeH20 setup utility

John :

OK in the main menu does it show hard drive details like make and model

Customer :

hdd model name: WDC WD2500BEVT-22A23T0

John :

OK now is the D2D option enabled in the main menu

Customer :

i don't understand your question

In the main menu of bios setup screen can you see a d2d option

Customer :

gotcha..yes it says enabled

John :

OK now go to boot menu

Customer :

ok

now which is the first boot device selected?

Customer :

1. IDEO : WDC WD2500BEVT-22A23T0

John :

OK the settings seems to be correct now go to exit menu and then click on save and exit that will restart the PC
immediately press ALT + F10 key when see the Acer start-up screen that will open Acer ercovery windows from that select to restore your computer to factory settings

did you get Acer erecovery window

I didn't catch it...trying again

this time it took me to a screen that says CHeck cable connection! PXE-m0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

OK it seems like the hard drive in the net book is not functioning properly.did you accidentally drop the laptop?

never

OK is this laptop still under warranty ?

i bought it one year ago today.

so..hopefully

OK that means the warranty had just expired you need to replace the hard drive

You need to get the recovery disc from acer also you need get a external DVD drive so that you can re-install the windows after the hard drive is replaced

i will probably call acer to see if they will replace under warranty

That will be good idea and you need to hurry because the warranty laps today
