Hi Our fujitsu laptop is less than a yr old and keeps stopping

Customer Question

Hi
Our fujitsu laptop is less than a yr old and keeps stopping I.e. We can't get anything from it at all when switching on - the blue light comes on at power button, but that's it and we have to unplug it and wait for battery etc to go before it will start to function again - do you know what this might be please? It's extremely frustrating
Many thanks
Alex

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer. I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.

First, please try to boot the computer into Safe Mode then see if it works normally there despite the huge icons and screen.

  1. Turn ON your computer or restart
  2. Immediately tap the F8 key and keep tapping it until you see the Advanced Boot Menu options
  3. Navigate using the arrow keys and choose Safe Mode
  4. Press ENTER to choose Safe Mode
  5. Press ENTER again to confirm

Please let me know if you were able to use the computer in Safe Mode.

Keep me posted.
Jess

Thank you for writing back. It appears then that this is a hardware fault, specifically the motherboard.

The only thing that you can do here is to Hard Reset the laptop. If the problem continues, you need to send the laptop to the store where you bought it for warranty-covered repair since a replacement of a faulty part may be required.

To perform a Hard Reset, please try to do the following:

  1. Remove the battery pack
  2. Unplug ALL USB devices attached to the laptop
  3. Eject the CD/DVD drive and make sure that there is no disc in the drive
  4. Unplug the power cord from the laptop and from the mains
  5. While the battery is out and the power cable unplugged, press and hold the power button or switch for approximately 60 seconds
  6. Then release the power button/switch
  7. Then, without the battery, plug in the power cable to the mains
  8. Then plug the other end of the power to the laptop
  9. Then turn it back ON and see if it boots this time battery bypassed
  10. If that did not work, please try to insert back the battery and try turning on the laptop again then see if it boots this time.

I hope that helped. Keep me posted with your results so that I can help you further.

Best regards,

Jess

Are you saying that you were not able to take out the battery? What exactly is the model of the fujitsu laptop?

Customer replied368 days and 23 hours ago.

It's a Lifebook A Series model AH531

Are you still unable to take out the battery to proceed with the hard reset?

Customer replied368 days and 23 hours ago.

Correct

Ok. To remove the battery, please look for 2 sliding locks at the bottom or rear part of the laptop. One of the locks there is static. That is, when you slide it to unlock, it will remain unlocked. If you slide it to lock, it will remain locked. The other lock is a flex lock. You need to push or slide it to unlock but you need to keep on holding it to unlock. When you release, it defaults to or it rests to its locked status.

So, you need to unlock the first lock. After the first lock is unlocked, slide the second lock and while it is unlocked, gently slide the battery to remove it.

It has rebooted without battery in - thanks
But why does it keep doing it and should we keep batter out

I am glad that the computer works without the battery. If the computer is used in the house only, you can remove the battery to lengthen its life and use the laptop directly connected to the power source.

If the laptop is used outdoors, that is the time that you use the battery. But make sure that the power cord is not plugged into the power source when the battery is connected and the laptop is turned on. This is to protect the battery and to lengthen its life span.

I hope this helped.

Jess

Thank you for writing back. This time, please use the computer without the battery to continue the troubleshooting process.

When the battery is out, please boot the computer into Safe Mode. This is a diagnostic mode and the screen and icons are huge than normal.

To boot into Safe Mode:

  1. Turn ON your computer or restart
  2. Immediately tap the F8 key and keep tapping it until you see the Advanced Boot Menu options
  3. Navigate using the arrow keys and choose Safe Mode
  4. Press ENTER to choose Safe Mode
  5. Press ENTER again to confirm

When you are in Safe Mode, please disable the startup programs and services that could have caused the crashing. To disable some programs at startup, please do the following:

  1. Click on Start => RUN
  2. You can also get the RUN box by going to Start => All Programs => Accessories => RUN or by simply pressing the Windows Logo key and pressing the letter R (Win Logo + R)
  3. In the RUN box, type this command and click OK: msconfig
  4. You shall see then the System Configuration dialog window
  5. Click on the SERVICES tab
  6. Click to select the option "Hide Microsoft services"
  7. Then click DISABLE ALL button
  8. Then click the STARTUP tab
  9. Then click on DISABLE ALL button
  10. This should disable all listed startup programs at startup so all the checks there should disappear. However, please locate your Antivirus software there and click on it to restore the check mark.
  11. Then click APPLY
  12. Click OK to close the System Configuration window
  13. Restart your computer.
  14. When you are prompted with a pop up window regarding the changes you made with the System Configuration Utility, please cancel it or close it.
  15. Then test if the system is now gaining some speed and then test the system with the battery and see if it works this time.

Keep me posted.
