Customer Question

My Acer Aspire 3500 is running painfully slow. I use Norton 360 and displaying Norton Tasks show that the CPU is busy with greater than 90% qtzgacer.

How can I switch off this process? or deletete it?

To restore my PC to something useful

QtZgAcer.exe is related to Acer Launch Manager utility, installed on Acer systems. You can try the following steps first

A Click Start-> Run, type msconfig and press Enter to open System Configuration utility.

Click Startup tab

In the list of programs, find any entry named Acer Launch Manager (or Launch Manager). If found, uncheck the checkbox next to it

Click Services tab and click the checkbox "Hide all Microsoft Services". Then look for any service named Launch Manager. If found, uncheck the checkbox next to it

Click Apply and Close and restart computer



B If it does not help and the system appear to run slow then use the following steps next

1 Click Start-> Run

2 Type msconfig and press Enter to open System Configuration utility

3 Click on the Startup tab

4 Click Disable All

5 Click Services tab

6 Click the checkbox Hide All Microsoft Services (this is very important, make sure to click the checkbox )

7 Click Disable All

8 Click Apply and Close

9 Restart the computer.

10 When it starts again, if you will get a notification about using the system configuration utility, click the checkbox for "Do not show this meessage again......", click Ok

If the system performs better now, the next step will be to re-enable one startup program at a time and test the system.


C Another option will be to scan the system with Antimalware from Malwarebyte's. Though you already have Norton antivirus software installed, it may fail to detect certain types of malware infections. Antimalware can detect and remove most of the infections. To download and install Antimalware, use these steps:

1 Use the following link to download Malwarebyte's Antimalware (do not purchase anything)

2 Click Download Now

3 Select the option to Save the file

4 Make sure that you are downloading the correct program. The name of the downloaded file will be "mbam-setup-1.61.0.1400.exe"

5 Once downloaded, install it. If prompted to start trial, click Decline

6 Select Perform quick scan and click Scan

7 It may take some time to complete the scan. If it finds any infections, click Show Results and click Remove infections.
