Customer Question

All of a sudden, when I try to view a video (utube for example), all I get is a blank screen (it was green but I redownloaded adobe flash drive and now it is black). I do hear the audio. When I put the cursor on the time line at the bottom, I do see the "thumbnail" of video. Any ideas what the problem is?

Optional Information:
Computer OS: Windows 7
Browser: IE

Already Tried:
The problem is the same on Internet explorer and Google Chrome. I have removed adobe flash and then re-downloaded it and still have the problem.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer. I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.

Please perform the following tests and let me know results

A Open a webpage which have flash content, such as youtube.com and then open any video

Now right click on the video and a small menu should appear

Click Settings...

If the option "Enable hardware acceleration" is selected, uncheck it

graphic

Click Close

Then reopen the video and check if you notice the same problem

B You already tried two different browsers, IE and Google Chrome. Please also try Mozilla Firefox which you can download at the following link

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Once Firefox is installed, you may also need to install flash player again. Done that test the video with Firefox

C If all of the above fails, uninstall flash player. To completely uninstall flash player, you can use the flash player uninstaller from the following link

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html#main_Download_the_Adobe_Flash_Player_uninstaller

(Scroll a little and download the appropriate version, 32 Bit or 64 Bit)

Then try to install an older version of flash player

You can download the same from the following links

http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/tech/10706/

http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/10707/

Let me know results

Thanks

I tried your suggestions and I still have the problem. However, when I tried your item A above and right clicked on where the video should be I do get a list of items but there is not a "settings" item to pick from. I could not find an option to "enable hardware accelerator" anywhere. I installed mozilla, same problem. I uninstalled adobe flash and reinstalled it, same problem. On the suggestion to try an older version, I have no idea what to try from the list since several of them are beta versions...

You can try to install version 11.0.1.152

Open the following link

http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/tech/10706/

At the upper right corner of the page, which opens, click on Download This Version

If prompted to run or save, click Save

Then double click on the downloaded file install_flash_player_ax_32bit to start installation

Once installed, open Internet Explorer and try to play the video with it

When playing a video, if you still get a black screen, try to right click on the middle of the video

A menu should appear as in the following picture

graphic

Click Settings

Now look for the checkbox "Enable hardware acceleration"

If found, uncheck it and click Close

Then close and re-open Internet Explorer and try to play the video again

If it fails, we will try another option

Customer replied 352 days and 20 hours ago.

In trying your latest suggestions, I got the message that I couldn't download the flash version because there was a version of the flash program running, however there was no flash app running, the task manager indicated that nothing was running, so I shut down and re-botted and now everthing is working, I even now get the "settings" choice when I right click on the video, it was not there before and now the window has different choices all together.

So, I think the re-boot solved the problem, I should have tried that in the beginning!

Thanks for the update. In case you notice the problem again, you can first try to disable hardware acceleration after going to settings, which resolve this type of problems most of the time
