Hello and welcome to JustAnswer. I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.I am sorry to hear you are having trouble. This message comes up when windows is not shut down properly. In most cases there is no real damage to the computer yet the screen comes up anyway. Choose Start Windows Normally and if all is well windows will start up like always. If there is a problem and windows cannot start up normally reply back to me and let me know.Thank You-ChrisRemember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. The prolem is when I hit start windows normally is still goes to the window boot manager as I first stated.
Ok I am sorry I see. Do you have any external drives plugged into the computer such as an external hard drive or usb thumb drive?
I have unplugged all devices I had a mouse plug in but it was not working. nothing plugged in at this time.
Please try the following. restart the computer and as soon as it starts up keep tapping the F8 key on the key board. This should bring you the safe mode screen, choose safe mode and hopefully this will get you into the windows safemode.Once booted into safe mode Open System Restore by clicking the Start button and browse to All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System RestoreFollow the steps in the wizard to choose a restore point that is before when the problem started. Please reply back if that does not help.Thank YouRemember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. I tried that Chris and it takes me to the same screen after I hit safe mode. Should I try another prompt?
You just tried regular safe mode correct? Also you mentioned you tried the repair option, what happened when you did this?Lastly what is the make and model of computer please?Thank You
Repair prompt goes back to the start window normally screen which takes it back to a full circle. I did only try safe mode after you stated to hit the f8 but it takes back to the windows boot manager screen. It is a Toshiba satellite 755-s5246 would you rather call me ?
I am sorry we are not allowed to speak on the phone. Do you have backups of the data on this computer? You could do a factory default restore but this would cause you to lose data. However I believe this model may have the option to save your sata and do the restore but you would lost all installed programs.
Chris this is America you can talk on the phone if you wish, its a free country lol.I know it is probably company policy. Anyway at this point I don't care if I lose anything I just want it to work. What would happen if I hit last known good confiquration or one of these other modes.
Haha :) Yes please try last known good, I didn't know you had not tried that yet.If that does not work do the following:While powering on your computer, press the F12 key when theinitial TOSHIBA screen displays. The boot menu appears.Using the arrow keys to scroll down, select the HDD Recovery option, and then press the ENTER key.A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is executed, all data will be deleted and rewritten unless the “Recovery of Factory Default Software with user’s data” option is selected in the next step. Click Yes to continue. When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens and the “Selecting a process” screen displays, select Recovery of Factory Default Software with user’s data, and then click Next.A warning screen appears, stating the Toshiba Recovery Wizard will “attempt” to save all data. There is a risk that the Toshiba Recovery Wizard may not be able to save all data during the recovery process.Click Yes to continue. When the recovery process is complete, the Recovery ofFactory Default Software screen appears, indicating that the recovery process is complete. Click Finish to restart the computer.Let me know how that goes.Thank YouRemember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. Must be a more serious problem after start up the screen now goes black.
Were you able to get to recovery and the factory restore?
It looks like it is trying to sart uo now buy the screen shows no image. Does this take a while because I can here the laptop making noises.
What kind of noises are you hearing? Is it like a clicking sounds? It sounds like you may be dealing with a hard drive failure and not a software issue.
yes it is clicking.
Not good. That sound is usually a sure sign that hard drive is failing or has has failed. In most cases at that point all you can do is try and recover the data and replace the drive. I would suggest at this point you take it to a local repair shop and have them replace the drive. Depending on the shop I would roughly estimate repair cost to be around 1 to 200 dollars for the new drive and labor. Sorry I couldn't do more to fix this for you but for a hardware issue such as this I would need physical access to the computer to repair.Thank You-ChrisRemember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. Now it is coming up and saying no bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key
Yes the hard drive is dead. It is giving you that message because it cannot find the hard drive which is the bootable device. Likely what happened is the hard drive was on it's way out anyway and when your grand daughter incorrectly shut it down the hard drive was un able to recover. You could try booting from a CD to repair windows but likely it will not find the hard drive needed for the install. The computer is no longer detecting the drive because the drive has failed. This is a mechanical issue not software, it happens from time to time.Thank YouRemember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer.
