Compac desk top went black...light above the on switch slowly flashing...one sec on, one sec off. I have been told that it is most likely the power supply. When I unplug the ac and reconnect, the hard drive attempts to start then immediately dies an light again flashes. I have bought a new computer but the problem is how to recover the data on the hard drive and transfer to the new unit
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows XP Browser: Netscape Already Tried: Bought a new computer

Compaq precarious SR1610NXKI really Don't know how much...maybe about 20gig more or less...lots of graphic design and photos.
Well , because the old system is dead, you're going to have to at least take the cover off, and remove the old hard drive. Check the DATA cable connector on it. Based on notes on that computer, it should be SATA. This is a thin narrow cable about a finger's width.Once you get the hard drive removed, you can simple adapt it to your other desktop with a SATA to USB adapter docking station. They are very easy to use, and allow you to use your old drive just like a plug and play external. Here is one I recommend and from a place I order from:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198048Actually the above item is new and claims to support both IDE and serial ATA. So in the case you have an IDE (wide ribbon cable) type drive, you would be covered either way. Please click on Accept button if this answer has helped you , If you don't click accept, we get no credit at all for our time.
