Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows XP Browser: IE
Hi my name is XX XXX welcome to JustAnswer, a paid tech support site.
Is the cable connected to a router or direct to modem?
from the router into my laptop
how are you typing to me now?
i am on another laptop
That is connected to the same router?
yes
Did the T60 ever work on this router?
i had some problems..and nothing was showing under device manager..so i hit run...services.msc...brought all back up
i have solid green..blinking light
what shows under device manager now? Does the network controller show?
yes..under network connection has network connection and wireless..both show working
right click the ethernet controller and click delete. Then reboot the computer and it will add it back.
are you speaking under network adapters
it is called intel pro 1000 network connection-that one
is that correct
i am restarting..will let you know
i am back up..looks like it is back under device manager..waht is next ?
when it restarts check internet connection and if no good go back to device manager and see if it has any red or yellow marks next to the pro 1000
I have no internet connection...and no red yellow marks.
I havwe solid green ..flashing yellow at laptop connection..what does that mean
that means it has an internet connection at the hardware level
did you reinstall ethernet drivers previously
no i have not
did wireless work previously and now?
did work..not now
on T60
Click Start, Control panel and double click internet options, connections. Click Lan settings box near bottom of box. Make sure 1st checkbox is only one checked. If not uncheck others and click apply and OK.
Also make sure you have DHCP and DNS set correctly.
Click Start, Control panel, and double click network connections. Right click on your network connection, click properties, double click the TCP/IP adapter and make sure both are set to obtain automatically.
I did the first that you asked
There is no network connnection to right mouse click on
does the T60 have XP
In Internet Explorer click tools menu, internet options, connections
im there
click lan settings and make sure first check box is checked and is the only one checked.
already did...auto is only one checked
i do not have anything showing under network connections..ihave on left side...create new..etc?
That is certainly why you don't have internet. Somehow you deleted your internet connections.
click create new
ok
top line connect to internet?
then click next
connect to the internet
iam there it gives 3 options choose from list, set up manually, or use cd
manual
always on
i did hit finish..nothing is showing
finish
i did hit finish...no new connection is there?
does it show anything in the right panel at all
no
do you have an XP boot CD?
unfortunatly no..this was my old work laptop that they recently gave to me..was loaded there and working fine?
It is XP sp3
When was the last time it was working
couple of weeks ago..i had not used much since not being able to connrectm
click start, all programs, accessorries, system tools, system restore
then restore and pick a point before the problem started
i am there?
it shows it was not turned on? now what
pick a date before problem started and click restore
i do not see field for picking a date
is that cause it was never on
let me load it on an xp system so I can see prompts
it is on by default unless specifically disabled
click restore my computer to an earlier time
should show a calendar with some dates in bols
go back a month
when i bring up..it says restore has been off-do iwant to turn on?
unfortunately then with no restore points and no XP CD there is nothing we can do
any suggestions as to exactly what is wrong.and what I need to get fixed please?
You need to do a repair install of XP. To do that you need an XP CD with the same version of XP. Home or Pro. Doesn't need to be the same SP. If you have IE8, uninstall it first to make it easier.
thank you for your help ed!
you are welcome
Ed,
Hi Ed, I just got back in from a business trip to Nashville, and while traveling, I ordered abd received the following 7 CD's from Lenvno, as suggested. Trouble now is I do not know if or how to load, or which ones, on the T 60 laptop.I thought it would let me repair, however does not have that field in the "Rescue"disc.

That is not a Windows XP CD unfortunately but a recovery package. If you run this it will delete everything on your hard drive. If you need the stuff on your hard drive you will need to borrow a single XP boot CD from a friend. It doesn't have to be the same brand as your IBM/Lenovo. It does have to be the same type, XP home or XP Pro.
If you want to run the recovery using the CDs you got, loosing everything on the T60, Just boot off the first disk and insert the rest when prompted.
You might have to press enter when first screen appears to choose to boot from CD.
Hi Ed,
Since I bought.....I may as well use. From what you are saying it looks pretty easy, just start with rescue disc, than laod others in seq when prompted. when all done, i will have a 'New" machine. Will that included all capabilities with the internet and wireless, cause it had before it crashed?
Yes. You will need to re enter your wireless password. You should also do all the Windows updates which will be well over a hundred. In Internet explorer click tools, windows update.
You have been a great resource..and i will go ahead and load with condidence that it willl resolve my issues, and if i run into any issues, I will reach out, if not, I will keep you in my 'Go To" list for any future problems.Your thoughts?
Just reply back if you have any issues with the reinstall.
The reinstall went great-all is running better than befor, and i also learned a few new things along the way. thank you for your help.
You are welcome. Have a great day.
