Following your instruction I downloaded Skype 5.5 (latest version 5.9), with the same result - no sign in - I am now going to try downloading 5.8, which I think is the last version I had that worked.if that works great - I'll let you know - but it doesn't answer the question why the sign in seems to fail on the new version.
I run Threatfire & Microsoft Security Essentials, and there is a firewall on my router. These were in place when the old version of Skype was running well, but could there be a problem after changing versions?(incidentally, I have rebooted and tried again - still no joy.)
Hi, thank you for writing back. Please try to disable the Firewall that you had set in your router. Also, if your Windows Firewall is turned on, please try to turn it OFF then see if the Skype problem is gone.If the problem is gone by turning off the router firewall, or the windows firewall, then manually configure your windows firewall to add exception to the Skype program. This is done by going to Control Panel => Windows Firewall. To turn ON/OFF the firewall, click "Turn Windows Firewall on or off". To add exception click the ADVANCED settings then locate Skype and then set the permission to ALLOW.Then test if the problem is now gone.Keep me posted.JessRemember, if for any reason you are unsatisfied with my answer, we can continue the conversation until you’re satisfied and Accept my answer. I have already accepted this. I sent a reply saying that Skype had come up the day following my question. I have no idea why it worked then when it didn't before. Also I ticked a box to give you a £5 tip. The fee and tip have been charged. Not sure why it doesn't show with you. Thanks again for your help.
Hi Mark, thank you for writing back. Yes, the accept was already processed and thank you for that.Thank you for using JustAnswer.com.Regards,Jess
