My Outlook will not let me open any attachments (.xls or .pdf)

Resolved Question:

My Outlook will not let me open any attachments (.xls or .pdf) and also will not let me download anything into the computer. Windows 7 64.
What is the solution?

it seems your real time anti virus solution is blocking them. can you disable it temporarily and then try again. after doing this, if you have no problems, please re-activate your anti virus solution. if something goes wrong please let me know. we can go step by step and fix it together.

how do I disable the real time anti virus? Also, all of my programs in the start up menu have disappeared (when I click the Microsoft logo in the lower left corner). Only can get to programs when I click "all programs".

what was the last time you were able to use your computer without problems? (we can do a system restore that will restore your computer to an earlier date)

last week. I tried a system restore and it will not let me do so.

It gives me a falure message on the restore stoping the data dump

I have disabled all security. Tried to reload Norton 360 and it will not allow the download. It runs security scan and disallows the download.

can you click your start button. go to SEARCH BAR at bottom and type this

msconfig

and press enter. it will open your configuration utility. when you are there please let me know.

can you go to startup tab. and press DISABLE ALL. and press apply. when done, please let me know.

yes, because we will disable the services too.

can you go to SERVICES now (tab)

check HIDE MICROSOFT SERVICES checkbox.

press disable all. press apply. and restart your computer.

they won't stay unchecked though. Went back to services tab after I checked and hit ok. They were all checked again. Hit hide Microsoft again and they all unchecked. Hit ok again and went back to tab. They were all checked again.

No. It goes to the startup box for windows Internet explorer but doesn't connect. It's like it's in safe mode

can you go to msconfig, and from general tab, select the first option (normal startup)

and press ok, and restart your computer.

Done. Opened outlook successful. Went to email with excel attachment. Tried to open. Note cane up that Clark. Could not be downloaded.
