DF5166 is being used by another peron or program
ok, delete all other files please
done and the hidden folder was a temp folder for IEfix that i have attemtped to use to resolve the problem but it didnt and i delted it too

when it completes, close and reopen IE and test please
done this before but i did it again and still the same
is it just for one website?
no it seems to be all websites...like google home page is missing the google logo and other content such as the background colors or images behind text and this is the same for other pages like cnn
ok, click start, type in %tmp%
delete all files there too please
is there a way i can send you the image of a webpage. i have it saved as a bmp file
same folder with the dfs166 file that is being used ny another person or program
yes, viw
via
www.wikisend.com
provide me the download link please
would it be feasible to try a reboot in safe mode and try to delete that file?
im uploading the image
yes, you can try that
do you know how to enter safe mode?
http://wikisend.com/download/795064/Internet Explorer Home Page (no Google logo).bmp
yes i do..have a look and i will reboot in safe mode
will f8 be good or should i use safeboot under msconfig
F8 is best
deleted in safe mode shall i reboot or stay in safe mode for further investigation?
not in safe mode with networking though
reboot as you wont have internet access
just so you know i am computer savvy so i know my way around but i have been working on this problem for 3 days and its the longest i have worked on a computer problem for a long time
the problem remains!
ok, you have windows XP right?
yes andnow it seems to be running really slow opening up webpages
ok, do this please
click start, type in cmd and press enter
in the black window type in chkdsk /f
press enter and preform a scan please
file system is fat32 cannot lock drive...reboot y/n
y
and it will do it on reboot
correct
ending new message toolbar pops up...if that means anything then continued to reboot
it seems as though it is running alot slower since we deleted the temp files and maybe the dfs166 file in particular...possibly because a program is having trouble finding that file??
no, it should run faster but may need a defrag after removing so many files
i have tried uninstalling both firefox and ie and reinstalling, ran malware bytes and spybot
also vundofix that detected no problems
ok, could be an issue on the hard disk which this scan should resolve
81%
this is actually happening the same on 2 seperate laptops, one that had the vundo trojan but malwarebytes fixed it on the one but the one im working on had no errors with malwarebytes
google chrome displays the websites perfectly on both
it is a weird problem!
i have tried to google answers but got no real answers
problem remains
ok, go back to the black window
type in
sfc /scannow
let it run, restart and test please
i have tried this but will try again

ie page loads correctly!
firefoc loads correctly
but lost desktop wallpaper
ok, put the wallpaper back

ok, this setting most likely got set during a windows update
why did the high contrast have to be unchecked
incompatible
could be the video card driver or a windows update
but good to see it is now working!
let me know please if you need any more information
when i reapply the high contrast setting the icon text goes really large is this normal
and is the high contrast setting supposed to be unchecked?
now when i unchecked it all the text under the desktop icons are huge and in white with black background
ok, you should have left it unchecked
restart the computer with it unchecked
if it is still like that
reset the XP Themes and font
by right clicking on the desktop
and chossing properties
so all the work we did and that was the problem?
yep, but the work was elimination
can be so many different reasons for this problem
