Okay lets take a look at the in depth settings.
First thing is to close outlook.
Then click on the Start Menu, then click on Control Panel.

Change it to small icons.
Then find Mail and double click it.
Now you should have 3 choices.
The top should be Email Accounts.
Click Email accounts.
This will take you into something similar to what you saw earlier through outlook.

Drop everything after the first part.

AT&T is anal about that at times.

Now you dont have use SPA checked right?
Go into more settings.
Check it and use the top bubble.
Okay now what servers are you using?
pop.att.yahoo.com and smtp.att.yahoo.com
Alright now go to the Advanced tab
Make sure incoming is port 995 with SSL checked
Outgoing is 465 with SSL checked.
Okay now save the settings on that.
Click Test Account and tell me what happen s.
Did it fail?
failed - still asking for password
Okay go the tab with your password.
Change the password XXXXX (you will need to uncheck remember password XXXXX and then change it)
Then put the check back.
Make sure its the same password XXXXX use when signing into the Yahoo webmail.
when I uncheck remember password XXXXX won't let me pu in a password

Did the pw disappear when you unchecked it?

Okay one last thing to try
Go to the servers area
Change the servers to the following
Make sure it looks like that
You will need to use the FULL email address for your username for this setup
can't read the image and it won't expand
Incoming server = inbound.att.net
Outgoing server = outbound.att.net
Login info username = full email address including everything after the @ symbol
All of the settings we did on the connection tab should remain the same so this is the only changes.
The ports are the same.
Okay you need to contact AT&T over the phone at this point.
There is something messed up on their side between the SMTP/POP servers
And the yahoo backend

Strange because if I open the mail in the web browser first then outlook works just fine

But remember you have it set to save a copy on the server
So that wont be a problem.

I also have a gmail account in outlook - do I need to anything about it?
Because this is going to completely empty the outlook profile.
All accounts will no longer be associated.
So go in and make sure your settings are written down for that account.
And that you know the password.

Archive that account too

Once you have archived everything and are ready.
Completely delete the outlook profile.

And open Outlook.
Do not select to manually set up
It will prompt you to create a profile.
Name it Outlook
outlook is telling me to setup a profile in the applet

Go back in the applet create a profile but do not create a mail account.
