networkdoc :

Okay lets take a look at the in depth settings.

networkdoc :

First thing is to close outlook.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

Then click on the Start Menu, then click on Control Panel.

Customer:

it is closed

networkdoc :

Once you are in control panel.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

At the top right there are views you can change to with a drop down arrow.

networkdoc :

Change it to small icons.

networkdoc :

Then find Mail and double click it.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

Now you should have 3 choices.

networkdoc :

The top should be Email Accounts.

networkdoc :

Is it?

Customer:

yes

networkdoc :

Click Email accounts.

networkdoc :

This will take you into something similar to what you saw earlier through outlook.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

Now make sure you are on the email tab at the top

networkdoc :

Then click your email account in the listing below

Customer:

Just so you know I'm and advanved user/programmer

networkdoc :

Okay perfect.

networkdoc :

That helps

Customer:

nogood at spelling

networkdoc :

Okay highlight it and click change lol

networkdoc :

That will make things much faster

networkdoc :

Let me know when you have it open.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

Okay now in there you need to make sure you have the following.

networkdoc :

With AT&T and can get funky

networkdoc :

What do you have for your user name?

Customer:

been fighting this for 2 months - I know funky

Customer:

user name David Farrow

networkdoc :

That is for the username ?

networkdoc :

Under login info?

Customer:

no it is : XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

networkdoc :

Okay that is one of your problems.

networkdoc :

Drop everything after the first part.

networkdoc :

The user name is XXXXX XXXXX the @ symbol

networkdoc :

AT&T is anal about that at times.

Customer:

ok - done

networkdoc :

Now you dont have use SPA checked right?

Customer:

unchecked it

networkdoc :

Okay good.

networkdoc :

Go into more settings.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

networkdoc :

Check it and use the top bubble.

Customer:

networkdoc :

Make sure its the same password XXXXX use when signing into the Yahoo webmail.

Customer:

networkdoc :

Test again.

Customer:

when I uncheck remember password XXXXX won't let me pu in a password

networkdoc :

networkdoc :

Check it back then

networkdoc :

Did the pw disappear when you unchecked it?

Customer:

ok test failed

networkdoc :

Okay one last thing to try

networkdoc :

Go to the servers area

networkdoc :

Change the servers to the following

networkdoc :

networkdoc :

Make sure it looks like that

networkdoc :

You will need to use the FULL email address for your username for this setup

Customer:

can't read the image and it won't expand

networkdoc :

Okay

networkdoc :

Incoming server = inbound.att.net

networkdoc :

Outgoing server = outbound.att.net

networkdoc :

Login info username = full email address including everything after the @ symbol

networkdoc :

All of the settings we did on the connection tab should remain the same so this is the only changes.

networkdoc :

The ports are the same.

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

Test it

Customer:

failed

networkdoc :

Okay you need to contact AT&T over the phone at this point.

networkdoc :

There is something messed up on their side between the SMTP/POP servers

networkdoc :

And the yahoo backend

networkdoc :

Customer:

Strange because if I open the mail in the web browser first then outlook works just fine

networkdoc :

That is very weird.

networkdoc :

It should work both ways

networkdoc :

There is no reason ....

networkdoc :

Wait

networkdoc :

Lets check two other settings.

networkdoc :

Open up outlook

networkdoc :

Go into email account settings.

networkdoc :

From within outlook

networkdoc :

You have nothing there connecting to Exchange correct?

Customer:

networkdoc :

Did you have that selected.

Customer:

checking

Customer:

currently set to save on server

networkdoc :

Okay good.

networkdoc :

We are gong to blow away the mail profile.

networkdoc :

Sometimes this works.

networkdoc :

I want you to close outlook

networkdoc :

Go back through control panel to the mail applet

Customer:

I'v tried that also

networkdoc :

No I want to allow outlook to autodiscover

networkdoc :

2007 has that feature.

Customer:

networkdoc :

networkdoc :

And you have your 3 choices.

networkdoc :

The bottom is the profile.

Customer:

will this delet my current mail?

networkdoc :

On the computer yes.

networkdoc :

But remember you have it set to save a copy on the server

networkdoc :

So that wont be a problem.

Customer:

can I archive it first

networkdoc :

Sure if you wish.

Customer:

please hold

networkdoc :

No problem.

Customer:

I also have a gmail account in outlook - do I need to anything about it?

networkdoc :

Um yeah

networkdoc :

Because this is going to completely empty the outlook profile.

networkdoc :

All accounts will no longer be associated.

networkdoc :

So go in and make sure your settings are written down for that account.

networkdoc :

And that you know the password.

Customer:

ok - please hold while I archive it and delete the account

networkdoc :

Archive that account too

networkdoc :

kk

networkdoc :

Give me about 3 minutes and I will be back.

networkdoc :

Once you have archived everything and are ready.

networkdoc :

Completely delete the outlook profile.

networkdoc :

And when I get back we will continue.

Customer:

done

networkdoc :

Okay I am back

networkdoc :

Okay now close the mail applet.

networkdoc :

And open Outlook.

networkdoc :

Do not select to manually set up

Customer:

ok

networkdoc :

It will prompt you to create a profile.

networkdoc :

Name it Outlook

Customer:

outlook is telling me to setup a profile in the applet

networkdoc :

Okay did you delete all profiles?

Customer:

yes

networkdoc :

Okay it shouldnt tell you that.

networkdoc :

It should give you a pop up wanting you to create a profile.

Customer:

networkdoc :

networkdoc :

Go back in the applet create a profile but do not create a mail account.

Customer:

networkdoc :

Again do not manually set up

Customer:

it is looking for settings

networkdoc :

Good

networkdoc :

That is what we want it to do

networkdoc :

Lets just hope it doesnt fail.

networkdoc :

Again AT&T can be a pain.

Customer:

tell me

Customer:

message "An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click next to attempt using unencrypted connection"

networkdoc :

Oi.

networkdoc :

Okay we can try it

networkdoc :

But I bet it fails.

Customer:

click next?

networkdoc :

Go ahead and try it.

networkdoc :

Yes.

Customer:

searching

networkdoc :

I have a feeling it will fail.

Customer:

me too

networkdoc :

If it does we will try manually one last time.

networkdoc :

But we will know that we did it on a clean profile.

Customer:

failed

networkdoc :

Figures.

networkdoc :

This is why I loathe AT&T

Customer:

going manual

networkdoc :

Okay select manual

Customer:

what servers this time?

networkdoc :

Okay really quick

networkdoc :

Your email is @bellsouth.net right?

Customer:

yes

networkdoc :

Okay

networkdoc :

Incoming (POP)pop.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing (SMTP)smtp.att.yahoo.com
(requires authentication)
Incoming mail server:POP3
Incoming/Outgoing User Name:Full AT&T email address, including domain (e.g.,XXX@XXXXXX.XXX,XXX@XXXXXX.XXX)
Incoming mail port #:995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #465, secure connection (SSL) checked
networkdoc :

Try those first.

networkdoc :

Use the full email address this time as well.

networkdoc :

Make sure that on the More settings.

networkdoc :

Under the Outgoing server you have use authentication.

networkdoc :

And use same as my incoming.

Customer:

done

Customer:

open outlook?

networkdoc :

No.

networkdoc :

Test the settings.

networkdoc :

No on the advanced tab

Customer:

failed

networkdoc :

You do select the box for encryption for outgoing right? And choose SSL from the drop down?

Customer:

yes

networkdoc :

Okay at this point and I hate to do it.

networkdoc :

But you are setup perfectly

networkdoc :

This is going to be a call to AT&T

networkdoc :

And we did it from a clean profile as well.

Customer:

Is this still going to cost me?

networkdoc :

You don't have to accept.

networkdoc :

I didnt fix your problem.

networkdoc :

The call to AT&T is free so you know.

Customer:

I hate not to accept but this problem has cost me so much already

networkdoc :

I totally understand.

networkdoc :

I gave you the number to their technical department.

networkdoc :

They may refer you to their Yahoo team as well.

networkdoc :

But I would start with AT&T

networkdoc :

Also let me provide you with a link.

Customer:

thanks very much for your efforts I do appreciate what you have tried

networkdoc :

This is the page they have the old domains and their information at

networkdoc :

And here is the new one.

networkdoc :

Wait there is one more option.

Customer:

If I accept - will it be a one time charge?

networkdoc :

I didnt think about this.

networkdoc :

Yes it will but wait one second

networkdoc :

Go to that last link.

networkdoc :

There is a tool

I switched this to Q&A mode because the chat seems to be having issues.

I am hoping that you are able to connect on Outlook now. Please let me know what the outcome was.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

I have lost all my mail

Expert:  networkdoc replied 2 years ago.
I am confused. What do you mean you have lost all of your mail?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Mail opens with error message "cannot open your default your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened"
Expert:  networkdoc replied 2 years ago.
Okay to confirm you are referring to Outlook giving that error. If you are then go back into the control panel applet, delete the profile once again. That tells me that no matter what we do, AT&T has corrupt settings, because even their own tool is corrupting Outlook and not letting you in. Your mail should still be in your email box, also you did archive so you have those. If you would like you can set your gmail back up (gmail of course is amazingly simple and will auto configure unlike AT&T). And the attach the archives. At this point I am at a loss. Something is awry on the AT&T side. I have seen this a couple of times before but had to refer them to AT&T for resolution.

At this point all I can say is that I have litterally pulled every trick and tactic in my arsenal out on this. I totally apologize I have not been able to resolve your problem.

I will give you my normal accept area. And should you have any further response on this question or questions before you decide how you wish to proceed I will continue monitoring the question over the next hour.

4 IMPORTANT THINGS (please read them)

1- Please click the ACCEPT button, so your deposit can be released and I can get paid for my effort. (*** Even if you have a subscription plan, you need to click the Accept button if the issue is solved for me to be paid, you won't be charged twice ***, don't worry. Thank you!)

2- Let me know if the answer doesn't work INSTEAD of leaving negative feedback, so we can still continue troubleshooting the issue.

3- Positive Feedback is very important to us. Please leave me a positive feedback after you are happy with the answer.

4- Any bonus will be greatly appreciated.
