My Mac says that I cannot connect to aol IMAP server. What

My Mac says that I cannot connect to aol IMAP server. What does that mean and how can I fix it? Mail was fine until 12/28, then in mid day, mail stopped updating. I can get my email on my laptop just not my desktop.

Are you using the AOL application for email? The error you are receiving is a connectivity problem. The IMAP server is how your PC accesses AOL's email server.

Not sure what you mean by AOL application. I have an AOL email account - as you know. I have been using this iMac desktop successfully for a long time, retrieving and sending emails. It just stopped updating.
In the Mail Connection Doctor, two red buttons appear: one for AOL and one for

the details for the first say: Could not connect to AOL IMAP server. Check your network connections and that you entered the correct information in the Account Preferences.

The Details for the second button says: Could not connect to the STMP server. Check network connections ..... (basically a repeat of above). Also, verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advance tab.

I also have Time Capsule. I have never used it to restore, Can I go back to 12/27 (day before problem) and restore to that date?

When I removed my aol account, I lost all of my folders, can I get them back this way? Can you walk me through this process?

Still don't know why problem occurred. Could be that my inbox and folders are too large?

There are many potential causes of your problem, but I doubt that it is because your inbox is too large...unless you have exceeded the amount of space that AOL alots you. You can check this by checking your email account status online.

I currently do not have my Mac with me, but I believe Time Machine is fairly intuitive to use. Please check the following overview to see if it is enough information to get you started. I would suggest restoring your whole system to the date you are confident is prior to the problem:

your first recommendation was to check on settings. You provided set up for POP3 whereas I had IMAP. Shouldn't the set up be different if for IMAP?

This does bring up another idea. You can also try using the POP settings to see if that corrects the problem. You email account will work the same way.

I was not able to resolve my problem with your tech. He did not have his Apple computer which, I suspect, made a difference in his ability to assist me. I went to an Apple store to get problem resolved, accordingly, I don't believe that I should pay Sergio, despite his good efforts.
