My external hard drive is asking me to format it but I have information on it. Says I must format to use. How do I override that to get to my pictures and movies I have saved?
Hello,

My name is David.

Note the drive letter of the external drive. Then if the drive was previously accessible in Windows click the Windows Start button the click Run or Search. Type

cmd

in the Run or Search box and press Enter. Then on the command line type

chkdsk c: /f

and press Enter except replace the "c:" with the drive letter of the external drive. Press Enter and let it scan then reboot and access the external drive.
