I have PrintMaster 18.1 - I had PrintMaster18 but that stopped working because of a Runtime error, so I read that 18.1 would work with Windows 7 - so I purchased it. It is doing the same thing as 18 - I get a window that says: "Microsoft Visual C + + Runtime Library - Runtime Error! Program" C:\Program Files\PrintMaster18.1\PMW.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way." I have PrintMaster 17 in my computer and that works just fine...why doesn't PrintMaster 18 or 18.1 work ? What is the problem?
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows 7 Browser: IE Already Tried: Installing, uninstalling, re-installing...and of course purchasing what was advertised as an upgrade to PrintMaster 18 - that would work with Windows 7 - if that was the problem? - and installing PrintMaster 18.1 - tried that three times....still getting the Runtime error message.
hello
my name is XXXXXX XXX I will try to assist you today
Did you have the copy of printmaster 18 on the same pc
sounds like a corrupt installation, possibly due to some lingering issues from the old version
Please try this: click here to download and install an advanced installer program. Then click on Start, then click All Programs, then click on the program Windows Install Clean Up. Then select Print Master program, then click on Remove to remove it.Then restart the computer and reinstall. Please let me know how it goes later.
Okay Dustin, I tried but it still is doing the same thing. I really have taken this program out before with the same results...so i was not sure if this would work, but I thought maybe, and kept my fingers crossed. I still get the Runtime error window. I do not have 18 on my computer...I just have 17 and have tried to put in 18.1 several times. I took out 18 because it kept giving me this error message. Then when 18.1 did the same thing I took it out and then re-installed both one at a time...nothing seems to work! PrintMaster 17 does work, perhaps I will just stick with that, and thank you for your attempt to help me.
If you have any other ideas of WHY this is happening I would love to know what you think.

Have you tried to update your microsoft .net http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263
Thank sfor the tip...but that didn't work either. I have written to the PrintMaster folks...at Broderbund, perhaps they have an answer...or perhaps I should just abandon this program and look elsewhere for card making software.
Relist: Other. Two suggestions...neither worked and the first one to un install the program and re install it...I had already tried many times...but tried again, and it failed again. The second to update the .net, I hoped would work, but it did not...I am afraid to press the accept button again and be charged another $ 38.00 for NOTHING!

Miro,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get to your answer. I had work to do, so I just got back on line a half hour ago, and i downloaded and installed everything you suggested, and i really had hope this would work, but even after shutting down my computer twice and re starting, each time I tried to make this program work I kept getting this same message..."Runtime Error! Program C:\Program Files\PrintMaster18.1\PMW.exe, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" (I am repeating this message in case it was not part of what you read when you answered my question about why this program would not work. Do you have any other ideas? I am sure all the things you said needed updating, did! And now they are, but so far I am still getting the same road block on this program. Is there anything else you can think of that I could try, before I totally give up on this printmaster software?
That's strange. I don't know what to say... You can try to uninstall it, restart computer and install it again to see if that helped. If not, you can contact Broderhund and ask them to trade Printmaster 18.1 for similar program like Printmaster 2012, because it won't run on your computer.
Well Miro, I tried un installing and re installing again...for probably about the 10th time, and the same result. Guess this problem is UNSOLVABLE! I do have Printmaster 2012, and it does work, it is just that that program really works me hard cause it is more for a qualified graphic artist than for a little old lady who just wants to make greeting cards. What confuses me is, PrintMaster 17 works fine in my computer. It is a puzzle that 18 will not. Actually is used to, and then it stopped working right with the Runtime error message. That is why I bought the 18.1 - because Broderbund said it would work better with Windows 7. But apparently, NOT! i do appreciate your help. Let me ask one question if you have time to answer I would appreciate it. You had me download and install Visual C + + 2008 Redistributable. My computer still has Visual C + + 2005 Redistributable. Is that something that might be causing a problem? or is that just okay? I am probably grabbing at straws, but I was just wondering if that could make a difference, since the problem is a runtime error. Can you give me a quick answer? I would very much appreciate it. If not, I still do thank you for all your help.
Hi again!Visual C++ Redistributable allows you to run programs that are written in C++ programming language and are intended to run on Windows operating system. If you want to run older program, you will need to have Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installed. For newer programs, Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable is required. So, it is OK if you have several versions of Visual C++ Redistributable installed on your computer.Regarding your original problem: when you first installed PrintMaster 18.1 on your computer, did it work? If yes, do you know what was the date?I am asking that because you might want to try to restore your computer settings to that date (or around that date), when PrintMaster 18.1 worked. If you are willing to give it a try, follow these steps:
Hi again Miro,
At some point I will accept your answer and pay you, but I want to tell you something, well, two things. First, in mid July my computer crashed while I was opening an email. I ran Norton and Malwarebites, and Spybot after I got the system working again...and could find no real reason it went down...then it went down again, so I ran the system restore, and i am not sure that did not do MORE damage. All my documents, my pictures, and my greeting cards were gone. I could restore my documents from CDs I had backups on, and scan my pictures and that was all okay, but the greeting cards I lost I knew I would have to make again...and that is when I discovered the program, which at that time was PrintMaster 18 - (which worked before the crash) did not work, because of the runtime error message. So I ordered PrintMaster 18.1 from Broderbund because they assured me that this upgrade would work. Of course that has turned out not to be true.
Now, this morning I got to wondering if some part of the old program might still be lingering in the registry, so I went in and deleted anything related to 18 and 18.1 - then I tried to re-install 18.1 - but alas, I am still getting the runtime error message. I honestly don't think restoring my computer at this point will help, since the last time PrintMaster 18 worked, was BEFORE the crash and the crash took out all my programs, documents, etc., so the current restoration points would be after the crash, and after is when the PrintMaster 18 was not working.
I am not sure we haven't tried EVERYTHING. But since you seem to be very capable, and very bright, I just would like to know if you might have one more idea up your sleeve.
I do thank you for getting back to me.
I have something strange to tell you that may or may not mean anything. I have tried a million things to get that error message on PrintMaster 18.1 to disappear, and just a while ago I got tired of seeing it, so I just pushed it aside and lo and behold I was able to use the program. Not quite in the way I used to. Everything I did, apply a graphic, write in a text box, change the font, etc. I had to do it "blindly" and then click on "file" to make it appear...but appear it did, and I was able to make a letterhead and print it, a card and print it and a poster and print it, all the while the error message box was sitting to one side of the program. Granted the program was not as smooth an operation as before when I did not have to keep clicking on "file" to make things appear, but I could make it work as long as I did not click "OK" or the "X" on the error box! What do you make of that, if anything? Is there a clue there about what exactly is making this error message and messing with this program? I would really love to know what you think.
Well, that is quite strange. Well done on figuring how to trick the program!I will do some testing and researching on that particular error so I will come back to you soon, hopefully with the right solution for your problem.Until then, you can continue to use it that way. What I would like to know is if you get that "Runtime Error" only in PrintMaster or did you notice it when using other programs as well?
I only got it in PrintMaster 18 and then in PrintMaster 18.1 - I have PrintMaster 17 and that runs normally with no Runtime error. I don't get that error message in anything else...weird isn't it? At first I thought PrintMaster 18 was so affected because of my losing all my greeting cards that were in that program. But un-installing it and then either re-installing that one or the upgrade 18.1 should have solved that error???? I hope you can deduce the why of it all...and if you do I will call you genius! Thanks for trying.
OK, here I am.After thorough research, I have learned that there are no simple explanation what causes that "Runtime Error".I have noticed that reinstalling such program or applying Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package usually helps. However, it is not the case with you.I can only suggest you few more things you can try, before you give up:1. Download and install latest Windows updates - they can contain a solution for your problem. To open Windows updates, click Start, and in Search box, type: windows update and click on blue icon named Windows Update. When a new window shows up, click Check for updates button. Then, wait a while. Once it completes checking for updates, you can either click Install updates button to automatically apply new recommended updates, or you can review all available updates by clicking links that says:xx important updates are availablexx optional updates are availableThat way, you can choose which updates to download and install. If there are updates regarding .NET Framework or Visual C++, make sure to apply them. After installing updates, you will need to restart your computer.2. There are newer versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package available - version 2010 and 2010 Service Pack 1. Since those two updates are quite small (4 MB), I suggest to try downloading them and installing. Use these links: LINK 1 & LINK 2.3. Sometimes, that "Runtime Error" as well as other unusual errors are caused by viruses, so make sure you use any anti-virus program that is fully updated with latest anti-virus definitions. Also, you can scan your whole system drive (it is C: by default). If you don't have a anti-virus program installed, I recommend Norton Internet Security 2011. You can have free 30-day trial version HERE. A little note: don't use several anti-virus programs at the same time because they will interfere with each other making your computer very slow.4. At the end, if nothing helped I suggested so far, only one thing remains: reinstall Windows 7. I know this is not some easy and helpful solution but you said PrintMaster woked before. So, if you really want to use that program once again, that should do it. But, I hope one of my previous three suggestions will help.I wish you all the luck!Regards,IT Miro
