i think your firewall is blocking the port 25.

are you using norton ?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
no norton.
AVG
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.

is it paid version or free version ?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Paid
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.

it seems it is blocking your 25th port.

can you start your computer in SAFE MODE ? (F8)

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
safe mode does not allow me to go online
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.

you will need to start your computer in:

SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.

(second option )

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
even in safe mode with networking i am unable to go online.
perhaps this has something to do with the fact that i am connecting via 3G through my USB?
is there another way we could go about this?
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.

if you uninstall your AVG fully, can you reinstall it again?

probably avg is blocking your 25th port.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
sounds reasonable. if i uninstall i can reinstall but then i'd have the same problem once it completes all its updates upon reinstallation. is there no way for me to keep my antivirus as it is, and instruct it to not block Port 25?
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.

i just noticed that cmobile co za is down.

it must be a temporary problem.

are you able to access your emails from webmail ?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.
can you try to uninstall your avg fully.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.
are you able to send messages now ?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
sending fine, but AVG is uninstalled and firewalls disabled
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.

ok, please reinstall avg

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
AVG reinstalled.
Port 25 blocked again.
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.
can you disable the (Turn off) email scanning in AVG
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
disabled email scanning. problem persists.
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.
In some unique cases, it is possible that your connection to the e-mail server will be blocked after installation of AVG. To find the cause of this issue, please try to disable AVG Firewall and E-mail Scanner. These two components can affect your e-mail client connection. To disable them, please refer to http://www.avg.com/en-en/faq?num=3857#faq_3857
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
if this is the case, why was it working on monday evening?
Expert:  Jerry Hannell replied 5 years ago.
probably AVG detected a threat and then disabled the outgoing connections fully to prevent further damage
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
disabled firewall and email scanner and still get this

can you uninstall your avg now fully. and then restart your computer. when you come back, please try to use your email program.

you will be able to send.

after doing this, please close your email program.

install AVG.

open your email program and try to send.

your avg should show you a confirmation box saying (xxxxx is trying to access .. etc)

do you see that confirmation box? you will need to ALLOW it

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
done.
fixed and working.
thank you!
