Hello, Welcome To JustAnswer Remember Only Click ACCEPT after the problem gets SOLVED Thanks & Regards Sibu
remove the battery and ocnnect only AC adapter
and press the power button
O.K. waiting to see what laptop does
Just shut down
ok this is not due to the battery or AC adapter problem ...
this is due to processor overheating ...
May I know the hp model number ?
please check the CPU FAN is running inside or not after power ON
try to hear
Yes fan is running But I smoke could that be affecting the fan
not much ...
You need to replace the FAN and apply thermal paste under heatsink to resolve your problem
how do I access fan and heat sink
it should be done by service person ... as it requires full disassembly of laptop As in below link http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-hp-pavilion-dv6500-dv6600-dv6700-dv6800-notebooks/
Thank You Sibu. Is this something Best Buy can handle
Yes but they will chrge more money ...you should contact any local service center for laptop (if not under warranty)
Do you mean a HP service center
that would be great ...but if its not in warranty then you can contact any laptop repair shop nearby you ...
Thanks again Sibu. Try to have a nice day
