The external speakers are working but the pc's own speakers aren't

There is no sound reaching the external speakers. Do you think it could be the sound card

I have now unplugged the external speakers

They are working because they buzz when I touch the jack plug

Goto Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore

and do a restore to previous date prior to this problem .....

No ... You can use USB sound card to get sound output

if you want to change the inbuilt sound card then it needs to be taken to service center to replace the sound card
