I have a Toshiba external hard disk model K-2518A that has 2 partitions that my laptop labels as F and G. While the partition G works ok, when I go to F, it says empty and no files although it has more than 48 GB of files if you look at it in the "Computer" window. What should I do to see all the files again in partition F?

How much used space is displayed on that window?

49,961,607,168 bytes or 46.5 GB
- Click the Start button
- Type: CMD
- Hit Enter
- In the blackbox, type; dir /a/s F:
- Press Enter

How many files are shown and how big is the sum of the sizes?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

there's a lot and it's still scrolling

Ok, it appears that all of those files are hidden.

I see that you unhid and chose to view system files earlier, but it seems as though it did not take.

Please, follow the instructions at the following link: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/56005-file-folder-hide-unhide.html

Please, keep me updated.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
By the way, there are 27,561 files
Thank you.

Please, follow those instructions and keep me updated :)
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

The link went to the installation of Registry Bosster software. After installing and running the Registry Booster software, the scan registered more than 380 errors detected. However, while the software fixed 15 errors for free, I have to pay for all the other errors to be fixed. And I am not really sure if this will really fix my external hard disk problem. Is there any other fix where I won't have to pay again?

Negative.

The link should not have gone to any registry software site.

Do you not see the instructions for unhiding your files on that site?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Followed the applicable instructions but nothing happened. The hard disk drive F still shows "This folder is empty".

- Click the Start button
- Type: CMD
- Hit Enter
- In the blackbox, type: F:
- Press Enter
- In the blackbox, type: dir /A
- Press Enter

Which folders are listed?
Complete the two steps below for each folder name.
- In the blackbox, type: ATTRIB -H "Full Path of Folder" /S /D
- Press Enter

Example, if the folder name is "Files i saved', then type in ATTRIB -H "Files I saved" /S /D

Now they will be visible.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I'd done the steps you listed but still, the folders did not show up. Also, everytime I type the ATTRIB step and then enter, "Not resetting system file - F:[Folder name]" message appears.

By the way, in the Recover My Files software (the one recommended earlier by another expert) that I'm running, the files I'm looking for appear to be categorized under the Lost Files Results. The software is still scanning 63 million blocks of my F drive.

Ok, please keep me updated.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Relist: Other.
The steps recommended did not solve the problem.
- Click the Start button
- Type: CMD
- Hit Enter
- In the blackbox, type: F:
- Press Enter
- In the blackbox, type: dir /A
- Press Enter

Which folders are listed?

- In the blackbox, type: explorer FirstFolderName
- Press Enter

Example: If the folder name is "Dog toys" then type in explorer "dog toys"
and press Enter

Did that bring up the folder contents on screen?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Yes!!! Thanks a lot. Is there a way to permanently display the folders every time I open the drive. It seems to be that I need to do this step whenever I open the drive.

One option is to create a shortcut to each folder and place it on the desktop.
Example: Create a shortcut to: explorer F:\Folder

In the black window, type: explorer F:\
Press Enter

Does it show the files in that new window?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

How can I create the shortcut?

- Right click desktop
- Choose NEW > SHORTCUT
- In the window that comes up, type: explorer F:\FoldernameHere
- Click Next > next > finish

One possible fix for this is to move the folders to another drive, then copy them back. That will reset the file problems.
