Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be working with you today on your question!
Hi Dan. I am Amy
Hi there Amy, are you getting any errors when trying to setup your calendar sync?
Sync says it has completed, yet no calendar appointments transer to my phone
Phone is new; so is Office 2010 & my laptop.
Okay, have you upgraded to the latest version of iTunes?
I had the latest version, then read online that 9.2itunes worked. I downloaded 9.2 itunes last night; my phone needs the latest version. Actually, I should reload the latest version before we get too far.
Have you seen success with the iphone4 syncing with Outlook 2010 calendars?
It's been hit or miss, there have been a lot of people reporting difficulties with Outlook 2010
I know there's a surefire way that does work
and it sounds like you've exhausted official support from Apple already
Does it involve 3rd party software for success?
and no doubt they have tried to get iTunes and Outlook 2010 to sync directly but not so
Yes, I 've exhausted apple software, and Verizon could care less.
What it does involve is using google calendars
But this should be an automated process
basically what you do is download a small software package from Google
We tried exporting outlook calender to google calendars - google calendar would not import the 2010 calendar.
It syncs your Outlook to Google Calendars and vice versa
will it still go through itunes,
It would not be an export
it would be a real time cloud sync
No it will not go through itunes
Once Outlook and your Google Calendars sync
(on the Google cloud)
then we set up an exchange account on your iPhone with google
to sync only your calendar (not email)
If you can walk me through this and it works, I will enthusiastically pay your fee. It that fair?
and this should push everything to the phone
sure thing, just giving you an overview
Email is syncing through itunes - will that part continue to work?
That will be unaffected
this is simply another account that syncs basically your calendar
OK, I have about 30 minutes. Is this long enough to go through this right now?
Let's be quick
first download: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
Google Calendar Sync
OK - hopefully I won't lose you. I will download the above file now
Install this on the computer where your Outlook 2010 is installed, follow the prompts and login to your Google account and select 2-way sync (meaning you can edit your Google calendar and it will also update your Outlook 2010 calendar)
If you lose this page you can always navigate back to: http://www.justanswer.com/computer/4xqce-iphone4-sync-outlook-2010-calendar-contacts-notes.html
And find me here
Do I want to sync 1 way from Outlook?
I would select 2-way syncing
That way you can update your appointments anywhere
and all the calendars will reflect any edits
I think I downloaded the file.
Once you have that install, sync for the first time and navigate to http://www.google.com/calendar to see if your appointments are showing up online
How do I sync?
I click on Google calendar sync from my start menu and nothing happens.
After installing right click on the little new icon on the bottom right tool bar and select "Sync"
This will force a sync to occur
To access the Google Calendar Sync Settings window, just right-click the calendar icon in your Windows System Tray and select Options.
When your events are actively syncing between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar, you'll see arrows in the Google Calendar Sync icon:
When events aren't actively syncing, your calendar icon will look like this:
I think I did something wrong. When I clicked on download, it asked for my email & password & I put the wrong one in.
The icon is not on my taskbar.
Ok, you need to enter your gmail email and password
Go ahead and re-download it here: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
I am going to remove the installation first, then start again.
Ok, no problem
Let me know if you run into any more troubles up to this point
It seems like I reinstalled it, but the icon still is not on my taskbar
and clicking on it from the start menu does nothing
Do you have a little left arrow by your system tray?
Windows 7 automatically hides some of the icons
No, but I copied the icon to my taskbar, however, it is not the same icon you showed me above
The icon is google calendar sync
Note that this is on the right side of your task bar
Make sure that it is not hiding the icon by doing the following:
Open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties by clicking the Start button , clickingControl Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Taskbar and Start Menu.
Click the Notification Area tab.
Clear the Hide inactive icons check box, and then click OK.
The notification area will no longer hide any icons.
.Did you find it?
50% sycn status. Something is happening
Perfect, so it is syncing!
Now go to http://www.google.com/calendar
Yes it is syncing. Perfect ONLY if the appts end up on my phone.
(Login with the same google account and passwor)
We're half way there ;)
And you should start seeing online at that webpage the same appointments from your Outlook Calendar
Please confirm that so we make sure that your Outlook to Google Calendars connection is working
It's telling me I will leave your page if I go to google calendar.
Right click http://www.google.com/calendar and select open in new tab / window
so we don't lose this chat
I am looking at the google calendar from a second computer.
My appointments are not there.
progess syncing is 68% right now
right, give it a moment until it is 100%
and then refresh
likely it is still syncing older stuff
if you go to months view are you getting anything populated?
Does it matter if my iphone is plugged into my laptop?
FYI, my appointments are on my laptop, not on my phone. My goal is to get them copied onto my phone
Let's get working on the phone while your calendar is syncing
To sync with your device, follow these steps:
After you've completed setup, open the Calendar app on your device and syncing will automatically begin.
By default only your primary calendar will be synced to your device. You can sync additional calendars by visiting the following page from any web browser:
This is what you should setup on your iPhone to sync your Calendar
Be sure to use the same Google Account that you are using for your Calendar Sync
OMG - I love you!
One more question...
I need to remove the old itunes and download the most current version again.
Should I unselect the calendar sync from itunes after I updated itunes?
Sure I would stay up to date with the latest iTunes version
You can unselect teh calendar sync from iTunes, we are bypassing it entirely
You can now sync all three calendars from any location
so update your appointments on your phone
Uh oh, not all of my appointments are there, only some
your Google Calendar online
or your Outlook
I would just click sync again on your desktop and force another sync
If you give it a few syncs everything should be there
Most of my appointments are recurring appts
This may be an issue?
Those should sync fine
Again force another sync on your desktop
then check http://calendar.google.com
Those are the ones that didn't sync
Let me look into that real quick
Not sure how to force the sync?????
I click on the icon, but it's not doing anything.
Remember to right click the icon
and then click Sync
Looks like there is a bug with recurrent appointments starting in the past
This should be a one time thing at the time of setup
okay - it is syncing again.
Which means what?
Do I have to re-enter all of my recurrning appts from today forward?
To solve this you need to go through your recurrent appointments in Outlook and revise the start dates to today
just right click your recurring appointments and modify the start date to today
instead of whatever year back it started
I guess Google Sync doesn't look all the way back
but any new recurrent appointment from today forward should be synced correctly
OK. I will do this, but there are tons of appts, so we won't chat through it. If I have problems after I have reset the recurring appts, can we chat again? Add'l fee or included with this one?
Included in this one
Would I get back to you, if so how?
Sure thing you can come back here http://www.justanswer.com/computer/4xqce-iphone4-sync-outlook-2010-calendar-contacts-notes.html if you need to get back to me

Hang on, let me do one recurring appt - it it works, then that solves everything.
Sure, good idea
I would do two
set up an entirely new one
and revise an old one to start today
once you've saved that in your Outlook
force the Google Sync again
then check your Google Calendar
iPhone will mirror Google Calendar so getting it to Google Calendar is the important part
Hang on I am still here
Sure no problem
OK - I think it works. The recurring appt I just created syncs. I don't want to mess with my old ones until I see if there are exceptions going forward.
How can I keep a copy of this chat?
It will be available here http://www.justanswer.com/computer/4xqce-iphone4-sync-outlook-2010-calendar-contacts-notes.html
For you to reference at anytime
OK. We are done.
Also, you can click here to request me directly for future questions. Thank you,Dan
You have solved what neither Apple nor Verizon, nor Windows could. I cannot thank you enough.
