Did you try turning on the laptop with only the charger connected (without battery)?
So you do not have the Windows 7 / recovery disk?
no i havent, will try that now
ok, do you need to get any data file from the computer?
toshiba tech support claims they can fix it without the disc
yes, by reinstalling windows with the built-in recovery partition
i didnt see that as an option
No, it's hidden
i figured you were going to say that
is it one of the F's?
I will show you
but first try without the battery
doing that now
do you need to get any data file from the computer?
no, everything can be put back on
Do this:witch on the computer and press "F8" key while Toshiba logo appears. You will see the following screen. Choose the entry "Repair your Computer" and press "Enter":
then try Startup repair
is that going to recover windows 7?
we're trying to fix first
before having to reinstall windows.
f8 doesnt work, and when we turn it on it has the repair option and it goes through a really fast repair and then back to the reboot screen
and the options are to repair or start windows normally
i have tried both several times, i brought up the other screen with more options for the safe mode and all that
it does not work then
let's reinstall windows
Please click here for the instructions to do a system recovery.
Thanks Viet! I will try that, if I have no luck then I guess I will have to purchase windows 7.
You don't have to; you can get it from Toshiba for cheap, about $25:http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/serviceUnitVerification.jsp?orderType=SFF
