What happens when you try to create a new folder?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Nothing happens i try to click the new folder icon and it does not work
Expert:  lifesaver replied 6 years ago.

Click start->all programs->accessories

Right click command prompt and select run as admin.

In command prompt type sfc /SCANNOW and press enter.

Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow

Let the system fix itself.

If you right click on desktop and then click New,do you get the new folder option?

Also press Ctrl-Shift-N (all three keys together).

What happens?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.

nothing happens

Expert:  lifesaver replied 6 years ago.

You may boot the computer in safe mode and check if you create a new folder and post back the result.

To boot to the desktop in safe mode keep tapping F8 key during restart. Once you see the option to boot in safe mode with networking select it and press enter.

See if you can create new folders.

Expert:  lifesaver replied 6 years ago.

When did this problem start?

You can perform a system restore from start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
well not sure but i just got a new external hard drive and was i did make folders for it day before yesterday and i tried a system restore and it said i dint have any rstore points
Expert:  lifesaver replied 6 years ago.

Ok.

in that case we may need to perform a windows 7 repair installation.

The missing system files will be reinstalled without causing you to loose any data.

You will need a windows 7 disc..
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

there is a wondows code undr my computer but its rubbed off cant read it its a dell comuter cant i get it from dell

Expert:  lifesaver replied 6 years ago.

Dell will provide you the recovery discs only..That wont help in reoairing windows.

At this point the best option is to backup data and reinstall windows using dell factory restore option.
