I have uninstalled Office 2010 on my new laptop as all my documents are in 2007 and I have installed my copy of 2007. On first doing this I opened my files OK but now I can't open them. 1st I get a dialogue box asking if I want to allow the programme to change my computer and then I get another box sayiong there was a problem sending the command to the programme. Might I have left some 2010 components on my computer accidentally? If not, why won't 2007 work now? I can open all my documents on my daughter's computer which also has 2007
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows 7 Browser: Other Already Tried: I have put the 2007 disc back in and asked for a repair. It said it had reconfigured Office 2007

I have set 2007 to run, but can't do 2010 until 2007 has finished. Is that correct
Yes, Finish 2007 first .
After that run 2010 .

Same dialogue box has come up. Is it because I uninstalled 2010 yesyerday?
Right click on it and Select Run as Administrator .
Right click on what? I only have your screen here
Right click on the Fix which you have downloaded.
But where is it? When I clicked on your shortcut a box came up and I just pressed run. I didn't save it anywhere. How do I save it?
Click on the link (2010 fix) and click Save button , not Run button .
Ok I have redownloaded it and saved it to my desktop!
Yes, I'm thick of course I knew how to do it! I've right clicked on the icon but it says nothing about running as administrator. Do I open it first and then right click the run button
Should I have done the same for 2007 fix
Yes.
OK. I have now saved both of them! Shall I start the whole process again with 2007
Yes, Run it .
Have done 2007. Will now do 2010
Ok .

Leave it , Install 2007 now.

Now check if its working.
no it's not.
Showing any error ?
Just the same dialogue box that I wrote in my original question
This is the error you getting ?
Yes and when I click yes I get a box saying there was a problem sending the command to the programme. When I uninstalled 2010 yesterday it asked if I wanted to uninstall all components and I didn't click the box to say yes. I know I should have done. There are 2 programmes on my computer that are not on my daughter's. They both begin MSXML 40 SP2. Do I need to uninstall these too?
Do you have Word Shortcut on your desktop ?
On my task bar
And no, it doesn't open up. I still gat the same dialogue boxes
Right click on it , Select properties.
There isn't a properties on the taskbar dialogue box
Press and Hold Right click on it , Drag to desktop and select Create shortcut .
I've put one on the desktop and clicked properties
Under the compatibility tab Enable Run this program in Compatibility mode , Select Windows XP SP3 , and Enable Run as Administrator.
Click ok , Double click on that shortcut after that.
Ok I've clicked OK is that right
No still comiong up with the dialogue boxes
Click Start > Select Control Panel
Now on the top right corner type UAC (inside Search box)
Then Click Change user Account Control setting
Drag the bar to the bottom ( Never notify ).
Sorry I don't understand that
Have you opened User account control settings ?
Yes I've moved the bar to never notify. Do I click OK now
Now Open MS Word.
Ok. The dialogue box asking permission to change settings came up and I clicked yes
Same Error ?
It's opened! Shall I try one of my documents?
Yes,
Still can't open my documents
Can you open MS word ?
Yes I can open Word from my shortcut
Just can't open any documents on my computer or my memory stick
Remove the Compatibility from the shortcut
Remove Run as Administrator also..
done that
Check if you get same error now.
No opened up straight away
Try your saved documents
My documents have opened too
No errors now ?
don't seem to be. Can open documents on desktop and on memory stick
Good. Double check if you get any errors.
If it is solved press Accept button,
Reply if you get any error.
Do I have to keep the UAC down at that level for it to work
Yes, Keep it down.
Does that not leave me open to anything, because it says it's not recommended
And can I remove the fix its from my desktop to the trash bin
Yes. Remove it
Yes I can still open the documents
Good to hear that.
OK from taskbar too
Good.
Click Accept button if you are satisfied by my help
Thank you. Is it likely that I'll have this problem again
