HI, I am a design lecturer at the University of Lincoln in England. I have been very poorly this year (now back!) but while I was off I did alot of skyping with students...however it was very awkward for them to hold their design work up to their little cameras set in laptops and it being still and clear...some work is in the form of pencil drawings and so is very light. It is also a shame not to be able to see them as well as their work...So as an educator interested in how new technologies can be used in education, how can I have a situation were I can see a student/students on skype but also a window with a live stream of their work...at the same time I want them to be able to see me and another window that shows a blank piece of paper that I can sketch ideas onto for them...in other words a live skype tutorial that mimics how we would work in the design studio???? Scanning work too time consuming and doesnt show quick changes, and wacom tablets do not 'draw' in quite the same way...Can you help me? Best wishes Pam Locker
Hello,Thank you for posting your question. I can think of one really nice solution to your problem. It is called Elluminate Live! the only limitation to this is if you are using the free software you can only have three participants in a session at any give time.It will all you to see the student and interact with them using one tool. You can sign up for an account and test out the v-rooms from the link below.http://www.learncentral.org/register Please let me know if you require any further information.Thank you
Thank you for directing me to Eluminate Live...I have signed up and it is certainly an impressive piece of kit. However, for design work there needs also to be video, which is why Skype seemed attractive. Eluminate only has sound ...our students work in three dimensions and often have models to show and talk through. I have never used a white board but I guess the quality of drawing is similar to a wacom tablet? This may not be good enough for our needs...hence the idea that we need two cameras at each end, one for viewing work, the other for viewing the teacher. So whilst very interesting and a valuable tool to know about, it does not really answer my question. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for your help, Pam
There is a video piece as well with Elluminate Live! which will allow up to six particpants to share their video feed. I well-versed in Elluminate Live! as I am a site administrator for a local college. If you have an further questions please let me know.Thank you
Thank you...could you direct me to a good tutorial that expalins how the video works? If Elluminate turns out not to be ideal, do you have any other suggestions on what we might try? Remember design is very different to other subjects relying on making and drawing as opposed to writing and talking. We need to be able to effectively 'show' work...many thanks for your efforts, Pam
