I cannot print email messages on AOL. My printer works fine.

Customer Question

I cannot print email messages on AOL. My printer works fine. I can print test pages and can print from my word processor, but not from AOL.

Actually ran across this problem with a user (offsite, a local person). HP printer, you're correct in assuming its not the printer.

Give this a shot, resolved it for him. He was wirelessly hooked to the printer though.

Go to:

Download the file, run the installer. When prompted, choose Upgrade. Finish the installation.

AOL should be closed at this point (installer will force it to close).

Once finished, open AOL, try to print again. Should be good to go. I do not believe you will need to power cycle (turn off and on) the printer. You should be able to test the results immediately.

Please remember to return and click Accept ONLY if my solution resolves your issue. Otherwise just reply and let me know.

when i click download it does not download. Note I do not have a paid subscription to AOL. I access net through DSL extreme. Could this be why it does not download?
Expert:  Justin replied 5 years ago.
You don't need one. There may be an issue with your browser (and causes for the other issue.

Use Internet Explorer to download it.

Go to start, click run. Type iexplore.exe and hit enter. Navigate to that page via the link I provided.

Or, go to Type AOL Desktop 9.6 Download and hit search. The first or second link will be the appropriate page. When you click download, a yellow ribbon will appear at the top of your browser. Click it, and click save file or open pop up.

Also here's another link.

AOL 9.6 is at the top left to download.

I have to run for a bit, I will check back with you later if you have any further issues.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I tried all three methods you suggested to download and in all cases clicking download did not get me to the next level. I have 9.1 Aol now. Is it possible you cannot download

9.6 unless you have later AOL version? What is next?

Expert:  Justin replied 5 years ago.
You can download it, the issue is with your browser. I've tested all three downloads already on my browsers.

The download is immediate. It does not take you to another page.

Let me try to find a a direct download link.

Here's two.

For the first, click it, see if the download starts. If not, then right click it and click save target as (or location as).

Click this link, try the download now. If it doesn't work, same process. Right click, click save target as.

Try using Internet Explorer if need be to do this, not Aol desktop.

And another one.

Confirmed all of them work.

I tried both sources. Got the websites. No help. Tried to save as target by right clicking and nothing happened.
Expert:  Justin replied 5 years ago.
Honestly, if you can't download files, you have a serious issue going on.

Guess we can try to trouble shoot Internet Explorer. We will not be using the AOl browser for the next steps.

Leave Internet Explorer closed.

Go to start, click run, type inetcpl.cpl and hit enter. Click the advanced tab. Click reset, if there's a box, check it, and click reset again.

Now open Internet Explorer and go to any of the above mentioned sites previously to try to download the file.

Thank you for trying to help. Since I was getting nowhere, I went to system restore and restored to an earlier date. This solved the email printing problem for me.

I wont need any further assistance at this time for this issue.

Expert:  Justin replied 5 years ago.

For curiousities sake, are you able to download files now after the system restore?

And furthermore, you should Update to 9.6 since you're still at 9.1
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes i now can download. I havent decided to do it yet however, until i evaluate the change more fully. Thanks again for your efforts.
Expert:  Justin replied 5 years ago.
No problem.

The 9.6 interface doesn't change that much from your version. Do NOT download AOL 10.0 and on though. The interface is much different, so if you're content with how yours looks, only go as high as 9.6

I felt 9.6's speed was an improvement in general.

I would also consider scanning for viruses, even after the restore as the behavior your machine was exhibiting (especially with the downloads) was not normal.

Received a message from your company asking me to accept your answer to my problem so payment can be made. Please remember that my problem was not solved by your advice, but rather my efforts. For this reason, i dont think payment is justified.

I have used your company's services in the past and gladly approved payment when i was able to resolve the issue using your advice.

Please update your records to reflect no payment to be forthcoming.

Thank you.
