I cannot sign in to my Dell laptop. When I enter my password

I cannot sign in to my Dell laptop. When I enter my password XXXXX following comes up:-

The User Profile Service service failed the logon.
User profile cannot be loaded. and an OK response button which then gives me the empty password XXXXX to fill again.

I have Norton virus protection. McAee ran out 31/12/10 which I have not renewed because the Norton is sufficient?
Your help would be much appreciated .

Can you please do this to see if you can log in


When the Dell start's Tap F8 > keep tapping a list of options will appear choose safemode with networking


you should them at the log in screen see an Administrator account


Please log in with that account


Let me know if you can get that far
