There is nothing added. it just says windows installer at the top and then 'preparing to instal'l nothing else.
can u right click on the pop up message and tell me what all options are showing ?
did this message shows up when you try to open Any application like Microsoft office etc?
It flashes very quickly milleseconds. If I right click nothing happens
It seems to appear no matter which application I try to use.
press window key + R then type msconfig.exe and press enter
did you get system configuration window
Have system configuration utility window
ok now select services tab
and look for windows installer
I have it
what is the status
The box for windows installer is ticked. and the windows installer box appears to have stopped flashing.
what is the status showing for that service?
Sorry - the windows installer box is back - and flashing
The configuration list says windows installer is 'running'
right click on my computer >>>manage
let me know you are there
Just to be clear - the windows installer box is ticked and the status is 'running' (and the windows installer box is still flashing)
did you get computer management window
am at computer management
expand the services and applications in the left pane
then click on services
then click on standard which on the bottom
now look for windows installer
Now right click on Windows Installer and then click on properties
tell me whats the startup type selected in there
and also service status
now click on stop and then click on apply and ok
I clicked on stop - a window appeared which says - 'Could not stop Windows Installer service on Local computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal windows error or an external windows error. If the problem persists, contact your administrator.'
Do I say OK to that box?
I've done that but I'm afraid its still flashing
again find the windows installer right click >>>click on properties>>>
whats status showing now?
as before it says Service status - started
now change the startup type to disabled
now click on stop
same message as before i.e. 'Could not stop Windows Installer service on Local computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal windows error or an external windows error. If the problem persists, contact your administrator.'
now click apply ok and restart
Do you mean re-start the computer.
It takes about 10 minutes for my computer to re-boot - do I just recontact you when its re-booted?
10min to reboot which pc is this ?whats the os running in it
change that stratup type to manual and we have try one step before that
its back to manual
ok now click apply ok
press window key + R then type msconfig.exe and select startup tab
now tell me if there is a windows installer in it
No. There is no windows installer in the startup window of the system configuration utility
do u have microsoft office installed in you pc?

are you able to download that?
I believe it is downloaded
now install it
let me know when you have installed it?
I believe it is installed -
where did you saved the downloaded file?
I'm afraid I just clicked 'save'
how did you know that you have installed it
did it ask to click next?
did you see the installation process?
because to install the next software you need Framework v2.0 - 32Bit
I have a box which says - Setup cannot continue because this version of the .NET framework is incompatible with a previously installed one.
is your Xp 32 bit or 64 bit ?
I'm not sure - how do I find out?
press window key + R then type msinfo32.exe and press enter
look for system type
on the right pane
X86 based PC
ok then its 32 bit
now click on the link http://www.yamicsoft.com/xpmanager/index.html and click on download (please check the file location where its saving or change the file location to desktop)
let me know when you have downloaded it?
Window appears which says - an error occurred during setup
press window key + R then type? cmd press enter that will open command prompt
Now type msiexec and press enter and let me know
I have a window called 'windows installer'
ok you didn't get any error messages
now type MSIExec /unregister and press enter
after that type MSIExec /regserver and press enter
still pop up is there
not sure what is a pop up
i mean flashing windows installer box
If you mean is the window still flashing - i'm afraid it is
then right click my computer>>>manage>>>expand services and application>>click on services>>click on standard then find windows installer
right click on windows installer>>>properties>>>change startup type to disable then click stop and then click apply & ok
I think we tried this earlier. I have a services box which says - 'Could not stop Windows Installer service on Local computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal windows error or an external windows error. If the problem persists, contact your administrator.'
ok are you logged in as Administrator
Yes. its my computer. I tried your last instruction again and this time it seemed to work. The computer management window lists startup type as 'disabled'
did you click apply ok
click on start>>>settings >>>control panel>>>click on user accounts
is there a account called administrator
Yes it's called colin (which is me)
no colin is a administrative privileged user not administrator
the user name for computer administrator is Administrator
so press window key + R then type cmd and press enter
Under user accounts are three choices - change an account - create a new account - change the way users log on or off. Under that is 'or to pick an account there is Colin Computer Administrator and the Guest Guest account is off
so administrator account is locked we have to unlock it
to do that press window key + R then type cmd and press enter
Type this command net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter
you can copy and paste this command to cmd
Sorry - where do I put this. I can't copy into the C:Windows\system\cmd.exe window
is the command prompt open
I don't know what a command prompt is. I have a window which NET USER etc etc
press window key + R then type cmd and press enter
that box which says C:Windows\system\cmd.exe is called command prompt
I have that on the screen
now type net user administrator /active:yes
It's told me - the command completed unsuccessfully
ok now log off and log in as administrator
I mean log off from the computer
Not sure how to do that
I have to go back on duty at 7:30 (in 10 minutes). Can we continue this later. I need to be at a clinic for 2 hours.
do one thing just restart and see whether the flashing screen is gone or not
OK. Restarting now.
My computer has now rebooted but the flashing window is still there. I will contact you again tomorrow
ok will continue tomorrow
