setup Outlook 2010 in new computer, can receive email but sent

Resolved Question:

setup Outlook 2010 in new computer, can receive email but sent email goes to outbox folder, not sending. When testing connections during setup, do get error message contact ISP. Entered correct port settings per ISP. Next step?

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings:


SMTP server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com


Use SSL


Port: 465


Use authentication


Credentials:


Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (this is the same as your email address but without the "@yahoo.com"; for example, it might be "brighthub2010")


Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (for example,XXX@XXXXXX.XXX)


Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

Ok, changed settings, tested account settings, error message received "connection to server interrupted, contact ISP",( same message as before). Do I need to restart computer for changes to work, maybe?

  • Set the “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” check box.

  • Select “Use same settings as my incoming mail server.”

  •  


  • Click the “Advanced” tab.

  • Clear the “Leave a copy of messages on the server” checkbox.

  • Enter 995 in the Incoming server (POP3) box.

  •  


  • Set the “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)” checkbox under Incoming server (POP3).

  •  


  • Enter 465 in the Outgoing server (SMTP) box.

  •  


  • Select “SSL” in the “Use the following type of encrypted connection” box under Outgoing server (SMTP)

  •  


  • Click “OK” to return to the Internet E-mail Settings screen.

  •  


  • Click “Test Account Settings.” The Test Account Settings dialog box appears and Outlook sends a test message using the settings you have just entered. If the test was successful, a Congratulations! message appears in the dialog box. Click Close to close this dialog box. If you didn’t see the Congratulations! message, go back through this procedure from the top to check all your settings.

  •  


  • Click “Next.” then “Finish.”

    Also depending on the SMTP server sometimes changing to a port such as 25 or 587 will solve the issue as well.

    Hooray, three cheers! You fixed it! it was the SSL box needed checking in "use type of encryption connection", now matches with outgoing server SSL..was "none" before , Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX!
