Can you let me know the exact error which you are getting?
Full error please.
Outlook is unable to connect to incoming (POP3) email server
What is your email service?
What is the part after @ in your mail address.
Can you get me the settings for incoming server?
Also, are you able to receive mails?
I do not know how to do this
Are you using Outlook 2007?
i don't know
In Outlook click help > about for version
microsoft office outlook 2003
Click on Tools > Account settings > Let me know the settings here
There is no Account Settings listed in the Tools drop down box
Click Tools > Email accounts
select your mail account and click edit
Let me know the settings here
click on it and choose edit
i want those settings, thanks
Can we try to make a new profile?
There is a test settings button. I used it and it says the specified server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. It says it found the outgoing mail server OK. It says it did not find the incoming mail server. It says it could not log on to the incoming mail server.
Seems like the server problem is still there.
change the incoming to: pop.uqconnect.net
I changed the incoming address to pop.uqconnect.net and then immediately pressed the test settings button. Got the same error messages the specified server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct.
Click on more settings
click the advanced
let me know once there
I am there
Is the "This server requires and encrypted.. " checked?
i just send a test email and it sent out OK. but not receiving
and change the port to 995
so we fixed the outgoing
check the 'This server requires and encrypted connection'
and make the incoming port as 995 for incoming
Click OK and check if that works.
getting the message that the server is not on the network now as my error message as I changed the incoming mail address to pop.uqconnect.net
change it back to mail.uqconnect.net and be sure the port is 995 for incoming and "This server requires" is checked.
I guess UQ is university of queensland?
changed the incoming mail address back to mail.uqconnect.net and pressed the send button - still getting the same error message with the server requires encrypted connection checked. will try changing the incoming port to 995
the incoming port is already 995
and what about 'This server requires and encrypted connection'
Be sure to check it.
this is checked
Also, go to 'Outgoing Server' tab
and let me know the settings there
the top line says my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and the box is unchecked. the rest of it is greyed out and not accessible
Check 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authenication'
Also select 'use the same setting as my incoming server'
Click Ok and try testing.
This server requires and encrypted connection' on the edit mail accounts more advanced tab is not checked and my email account is sending ok.
Check it please
and try again
when i check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' the rest becomes live and it shows a dot against the use same settings as my incoming mail server
Yes thats correct
Now try to test the mail please
checked the box and tested the settings and getting the same error messages
Exact error message please?
Logon to incoming mail server (POP3). The specified server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct.
Logon to incoming mail server (POP3). The specified server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct.
Try using 110 port for incoming server
Find incoming mail server (POP3). Outlook could not connect to the incoming mail server (POP3). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server may not support SSL. Verify your port and SSL settings. This is the second error message.
After changing the port to 110?
exact same error messages with port 110 with and without the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' box checked
Ok revert the mail port back to 995
Than try these 3 incoming mail servers
To clarify, I am getting the same two error message with both the 995 and 110 ports
I suspect some settings error is there
Can you get the exact settings from your mail provider?
with or without the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' box checked?
I do not know how to get the exact settings from my mail provider?
yes to which - checked or unchecked?
Try with both
Also, Let me know if the username in settings is your "full email address"
in the email account edit window
none of these changes worked.
the user name in my settings is correct
my username is XXXXX XXXXX email address
The part after @ is uqconnect.edu.au or uqconnect.net?
mine is an external user account
University of Queensland?
correct - an external account - I am not a student or a staff member
Do you have any friend etc who have mail account there?
When is the system last working fine?
last time I used it on Friday it was fine
it only stopped working after they had the fire in the data centre today
Can we try a system restore?
what is that
why do I need to restore my system when my sending email is OK?
This is because the incoming is not working.
and we need the old setting.
First of all bookmark this page to get back to me.
Because in the restoration process you can lose me
Let me know once done.
I have four email identies in my uq account.
What is involved in a system restore and how will this affect my email accounts
No data will be lost.
Just the settings will get reverted to the date of resotration.
I cannot take any risk with my accounts as they are business accounts
All are uqconnect.net accounts?
All accounts having the same problem?
it is only one account with four email addresses
In that case the issue is somewhere else and not the settings.
You are using a common setting?
I have one username and password XXXXX my uqconnect account which operates four email addresses. The port for the other 3 email addresses for receiving appears to be set to 110. the port for my main email address appears to be 995. You asked me to change it to 110, but this did not work, it is back as 995 now
But are the other mails working?
where the port is 110?
none of the emails addresses are getting a reponse from the server
I can send but not receive
this is a problem from uqconnect server actually
Can you get the info about the settings from their helpdesk?
the helpdesk is closed
I can try logging on to their website
Yes please try that.
If you did not changed any settings the problem is their server may be.
Ok and you have the same settings?
One more thing you can try is disable firewall and antivirus.
Some software may be causing conflict.
or the antivirus/firewall interfering.
I have the same settings
I already tried turning off antivirus and firewalls today and that had no effect
I will try again
Still getting the same error messages for incoming email
I will suggest a restore
you can undo it also.
How about it?
What is involved in a restore? What data is affected? How will it affect my computer?
Only settings, no data is affected.
I have not changed any of my settings
I know, but it may happen due to any update or any new software installation.
Restore will revert it back.
My settings are the same as those on the uqconnect website. I have not installed any new software or done any updates
It may have done in background
I don't find any risk in a restore
as you can undo it
my settings match what is on the uqconnect website page
It may happen due to microsoft autoupdates
Anyways, I am out of options
I will opt out and open this for other experts.
Thank you too.
