Welcome to JustAnswer!

EngineerNajeeb:

Are you only having the problem downloading something or browsing the internet in general?

Customer:

I can browse to different sites, but I can't open anything on the sites

EngineerNajeeb:

Do you mean you have a problem opening links on the websites?

Customer:

Yes

EngineerNajeeb:

Is it the same for all the websites or some specific website?

Customer:

All the websites!

EngineerNajeeb:

For instance, if you open www.yahoo.com and then click Mail, what error do you get?

Customer:

I am able to use yahoo mail okay, but I can't download stuff. I tried to download an update from Microsoft and it wouldn't let me.

EngineerNajeeb:

So it means you are having problem’s downloading a specific file

EngineerNajeeb:

Right?

Customer:

Yes

EngineerNajeeb:

Can you provide me with the link that you are having problem’s downloading?

Customer:

Sure

Customer:

http://www.uwosh.edu/coehs/departments/OFE/cooperating-teacher-resources/supervision-of-student-teachers/module-1-pi-34

Customer:

On this site I can download the pdf but not the word

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok, I checked the link in Firefox and it is working

EngineerNajeeb:

It is working in internet explorer as well

EngineerNajeeb:

Can you tell me the error that you get when you click on the link?

Customer:

There is no error

Customer:

Nothing happens

Customer:

I click and nothing opens or does anything

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok what happens if you paste the link below in the browser?

EngineerNajeeb:

http://www.uwosh.edu/coehs/departments/OFE/cooperating-teacher-resources/supervision-of-student-teachers/documents/documentation-pi-34.doc

Customer:

Nothing

Customer:

It also won't let me click “print this” and have it print

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok

Customer:

Is there something wrong with my computer reading it?

EngineerNajeeb:

Try the following and then try downloading the file again

EngineerNajeeb:

  1. Open Internet Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

  1. On the General tab, under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.

  1. In the Delete Files dialog box that appears, click OK.

  1. Under History, click Clear History.

  1. In the dialog box that appears, click OK.

  1. Quit Internet Explorer.

EngineerNajeeb:

Not with the computer, but with settings in the Internet explorer

Customer:

I don't have a tools menu

EngineerNajeeb:

Access tools menu by pressing ALT + T

Customer:

NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I DO THAT

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok, please do the following

EngineerNajeeb:

Download repair i.e. from the following link

EngineerNajeeb:

www.repairie.com

EngineerNajeeb:

Download and run the file

Customer:

It won’t let me download it

Customer:

I’m now realizing that my computer also won't let me add favorites and the i.e. seems to be missing a toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

Would you like to download another free internet browser?

Customer:

I would like to try to fix this one

EngineerNajeeb:

These problems can be fixed once we can download the tools required to fix the problem using an alternate browser

EngineerNajeeb:

www.mozilla.com/firefox/

EngineerNajeeb:

Download and install Firefox from the link provided above

EngineerNajeeb:

Then we can proceed to fix IE

EngineerNajeeb:

It’s again the download problem

Customer:

It won't let me download it

EngineerNajeeb:

Can you download from the following link?

EngineerNajeeb:

http://wikisend.com/download/950336/RepairIE.zip

Customer:

Nope

Customer:

Again nothing happens when I click the download

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok

EngineerNajeeb:

Can you please follow the following instructions?

EngineerNajeeb:

  1. Close all open Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  1. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

  1. Locate and then click the following registry sub key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

    • For Windows Explorer: In the details pane, locate the Explorer sub key, and then open it. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.

EngineerNajeeb:

This is to enable the toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

Please follow the following step instead of the "For Windows Explorer" step

EngineerNajeeb:

For Internet Explorer: In the details pane, locate the Web Browser sub key, and then open it. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.

EngineerNajeeb:

The rest of the instructions are the same

Customer:

If I close all i.e. I will lose you

EngineerNajeeb:

You can save the question link in notepad

EngineerNajeeb:

http://www.justanswer.com/questions/3tx4x-my-computer-will-not-let-me-download-anything-what-do-i-d

Customer:

How do I do that

EngineerNajeeb:

Copy the above link and save it in notepad

EngineerNajeeb:

Then once you are done, copy the link from the notepad and paste in IE

Customer:

I did it

EngineerNajeeb:

Now can you see the toolbar in explorer?

Customer:

Nope

EngineerNajeeb:

Did you follow the instructions as followed?

EngineerNajeeb:

  1. Close all open Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  1. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

  1. Locate and then click the following registry sub key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

For Internet Explorer: In the details pane, locate the Web Browser sub key, and then open it. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.

Customer:

Yes

EngineerNajeeb:

Check the last step again i.e. For Internet Explorer

EngineerNajeeb:

Is it what you did?

Customer:

Yes

Customer:

Should I try it again

EngineerNajeeb:

Now first follow the steps below:

EngineerNajeeb:

  1. Close all open Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows.

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  1. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

  1. Locate and then click the following registry sub key:

  1. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.

  1. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

Customer:

I did it and still no toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

Can you please repeat the first steps again?

Customer:

Yes

Customer:

I tried to do the first one again but there was not a baylayout just an it bar7layout

EngineerNajeeb:

It bar7layout is ok

Customer:

I now have a Bing toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

No toolbar?

EngineerNajeeb:

Can you see tools on the right side of the IE window?

Customer:

Not under web browser or shell browser but under explorer there is an itbarlayout

Customer:

Do I delete that too

Customer:

No toolbar yet

Customer:

No

Customer:

There is a little blue tool

EngineerNajeeb:

Is it a kind of wheel?

Customer:

No wheel

Customer:

How do I get rid of this Bing toolbar?

EngineerNajeeb:

Right click on the empty space of the IE toolbar area

EngineerNajeeb:

And then select menu bar

Customer:

There is no i.e. toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

Right click to the area next to Bing toolbar (empty area) and when the popup menu appears, select menu bar

Customer:

Nothing pops up when I right click on the empty space

EngineerNajeeb:

RepairIE

EngineerNajeeb:

What do you get when you click on the link above?

Customer:

Nothing it won’t let me download it

Customer:

Should I delete that other itbarlayout first?

EngineerNajeeb:

Yes

Customer:

I did and now I have a wheel

EngineerNajeeb:

Now can you right click and get the popup menu?

Customer:

No

Customer:

All I have is the Google toolbar and the Bing toolbar

Customer:

Nothing shows up if I right click

EngineerNajeeb:

Is the tools written along with the wheel?

Customer:

No it's on the Bing toolbar

EngineerNajeeb:

I think it would be easier if you can download repairIE on another computer and then run it on this one to correct the problem

Customer:

I don't have another one

Customer:

Under the toolbar on the registry editor there are all kinds of things

Customer:

Should those be there or should there just be the default

EngineerNajeeb:

No, only these two steps were required to correct the problem

EngineerNajeeb:

What do you get when you press ALT + F?

Customer:

Nothing happens

EngineerNajeeb:

The version of IE is 8?

Customer:

I don't think I have that one

Customer:

Is there an update I can get?

EngineerNajeeb:

Any update must be downloaded and that what you cannot do unfortunately

EngineerNajeeb:

I don’t think you need an update

EngineerNajeeb:

You only need to fix the errors using the repairIE

Customer:

Under registry editor i.e. download could that be the problem

EngineerNajeeb:

Here is article on how to fix the IE toolbar issue

EngineerNajeeb:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962963

EngineerNajeeb:

It has the same instructions that I have provided earlier to you to fix the problem

EngineerNajeeb:

It has a fix it tool also, but the problem is that you won’t be able to download it

Customer:

Will this work

Customer:

Can I go to a friend's computer and download the repair i.e. onto a flash drive

EngineerNajeeb:

If you could get the toolbar running, then we can follow the following instructions to solve the download issue

EngineerNajeeb:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306837

EngineerNajeeb:

Yes.

Customer:

Can you tell me step by step what to do?

EngineerNajeeb:

Download the file from www.repairie.com

EngineerNajeeb:

Bring it to your computer and unzip the file

EngineerNajeeb:

Then run the .exe file to repair IE

EngineerNajeeb:

Once repaired, open it and check its functionality

Customer:

I'm downloading it from the flash drive now

Customer:

I opened it and double clicked but nowhere does it show run

EngineerNajeeb:

Did you click it to open?

Customer:

Yes

Customer:

A box opens up with all of these options but none of them are run

EngineerNajeeb:

Now open the IE

Customer:

Ok

Customer:

Done

EngineerNajeeb:

Now try opening the link you had problem with

Customer:

Still nothing

Customer:

I don't think the repair i.e. ever came on to this computer

Customer:

I think it's still on the flash drive

EngineerNajeeb:

So copy it to your computer and run

Customer:

I copied it but it's not running

EngineerNajeeb:

From start->Control Panel->Add Remove Programs, look for Windows Internet Explorer

Customer:

I found windows internet explorer 7

EngineerNajeeb:

Do you have a remove or modify button next to it?

Customer:

Remove only

EngineerNajeeb:

What error do you get when you try to run repair i.e.?

Customer:

I don't get an error

Customer:

There is no where that says run

Customer:

It opens up a box with all of these options to change stuff

EngineerNajeeb:

What setting do you have against "Disable the right click shortcut menu"?

EngineerNajeeb:

Under appearance menu

Customer:

It says no

EngineerNajeeb:

Under browser features "Disable Internet Explorer Download notification", what do you have?

Customer:

It says yes

EngineerNajeeb:

Double click it and then on the box that appears, select OK

EngineerNajeeb:

Or yes rather

Customer:

Ok done

EngineerNajeeb:

Now check the download

Customer:

Still nothing

EngineerNajeeb:

Close all IEs, then change the value of "Disable Internet Explorer Download notification" to the no if it says yes

EngineerNajeeb:

Otherwise leave it at no and then restart IE

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok?

Customer:

I did and still no downloads

EngineerNajeeb:

What about the value of Disable Internet Explorer Download Notification entry in Repair IE?

EngineerNajeeb:

Is it yes or the no?

Customer:

There is nothing

EngineerNajeeb:

Restart your computer and then check

Customer:

Ok

Customer:

I did and no downloads yet

EngineerNajeeb:

Now do the following

EngineerNajeeb:

Go to Start / Run
Then enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Click Ok when finished

EngineerNajeeb:

Then check download again

Customer:

Nope

EngineerNajeeb:

Do the following also

EngineerNajeeb:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

EngineerNajeeb:

Do each of them separately

EngineerNajeeb:

Each in run window

Customer:

The first one worked but the java one said it couldn't be found

EngineerNajeeb:

Type the spellings correctly

Customer:

The msh one didn't work either

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok please do the ones you can

Customer:

I did the rest

EngineerNajeeb:

All of them worked?

Customer:

The java and html ones did not

EngineerNajeeb:

Check IE again

Customer:

Nothing yet

EngineerNajeeb:

What do you get ALT + V?

Customer:

Nothing

EngineerNajeeb:

With ALT + V

EngineerNajeeb:

Ok

EngineerNajeeb:

Do the following

EngineerNajeeb:

From the start menu, run type the following and press OK

EngineerNajeeb:

sfc /scan now

EngineerNajeeb:

Wait until the scan finishes

Customer:

The scan is done

EngineerNajeeb:

Now check

Customer:

Still nothing

EngineerNajeeb:

Please open the following link in IE and check if you can get a fix it popup

EngineerNajeeb:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

EngineerNajeeb:

If you do, click fix it

Customer:

Yes I got one

Customer:

Click on run it?

EngineerNajeeb:

Fix it

EngineerNajeeb:

Or run it

EngineerNajeeb:

Yes

Customer:

I clicked run now but nothing happens

EngineerNajeeb:

Let us download and install the new version of IE8

EngineerNajeeb:

You will have to use your friend’s services again

Customer:

Will it download?

EngineerNajeeb:

On your friends computer, yes

Customer:

Where do I go to download it?

EngineerNajeeb:

You can download from the following link

EngineerNajeeb:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx

Customer:

I’m just installing it now

EngineerNajeeb:

So did you get the internet explorer working?

Customer:

Yes

Customer:

The downloads are now working

Customer:

Do you have any tips for me so something like this doesn't happen again?

EngineerNajeeb:

Keep your computer from spywares and viruses

Customer:

I have Norton

Customer:

It must not have caught it

EngineerNajeeb:

Norton cannot catch spywares

EngineerNajeeb:

You need software like Malwarebytes

EngineerNajeeb:

www.malwarebytes.org

EngineerNajeeb:

You can download the free version and scan your computer
