google chrome tells me that connection refused when I attempt

google chrome tells me that connection refused when I attempt to go to any website.

 

Optional Information:
Computer OS: Windows XP

Already Tried:
I have used another browser to get online. which seems to prove that the problem is not the connection

Ok, try this:

go to control panel>internet options>connections>LAN settings> and uncheck use proxy server for your LAN
And from chrome,

  1. Click the Tools tools menu menu.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Click the Under the Hood tab.
  4. Click Change proxy settings. This opens the Internet Properties dialog.
  5. Click LAN Settings.
  6. Make sure that the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox is selected.
  7. Click OK for all dialog boxes.

no, it didn't work.

Odd that it's just chrome....

Try this:

  1. Click the Tools tools menu menu.
  2. Click the Under the Hood tab and find the "Privacy" section.
  3. In the "Cookie settings" section, click Show cookies.
  4. Click Remove all.
  5. Click Close.

I should have asked, how long has this been happening?

I can now contact you because Iinstalled firefox. this problem started today.

I would try a system restore to yesterday before the problem started.
If that fails, uninstall it and install the portable version, I find them much easier to deal with in most cases, I even use the firefox portable....
