my homepage is stuck with firefox start . I have been using

my homepage is stuck with firefox "start". I have been using firefox/google for years, and after fixing some other problem, I am stuck with the start page. The toolbar with "fie, edit, view, bookmark, home" etc. is gone. I can't get it back.

I am a researcher, and I've lost hundreds of bookmarks. I unistalled and re-installed firefox, but nothing really changed.
1) What do I do to get the toolbar back?
2) How do I retrieve all of my lost (and very valuable) bookmarks?

Please do a system restore will make your system as earlier..

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
  2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
  3. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

    Note Select the date in which firefox is working fine. Click OK.
  4. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
  5. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page is displayed.
  6. Click OK.
It will automatically restart the system..before save all the data's.

It did not work. The same firefox-start page is all there is.

In that you have to copy places.sqlite file ..This file contains the book marks..

And second article describes creating new profile..

After creating new profile..Copy that file in to that profile..

I am using 2 computers to do this. On the faulty one, the firefox start page is void of the necessary toolbar. There is no "help" prompt.

I will keep trying aqnd let you know.

I'm sorry, but none of this is helping. I am going to just leave it the way it is. Download my stuff from MOZY onto this laptop, and reformat the CPU that's having all the problems.

Atleast the backup your mozilla firefox ..

Please follow the steps in to backup the profile ..

this is for windows XP...

  1. Click the Windows Start button, and select Run....

  2. Type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ then click OK.

  3. Windows Explorer opens a folder containing your profiles.
  4. Double-click the profile folder you wish to open (e.g. the xxxxxxxx.default folder).
You can import this profile new computer then you will get all the bookmarks..

I tried your suggestions. It did not work. It was not bad advice at all. My particular situation was more complicated, involving both software and hardware. The computer is in the shop now.
