Hi I have Maxtor external drive 640GB more than 6 months. I

Hi I have Maxtor external drive 640GB more than 6 months.
I used this as backup for my laptop storing the most critical business information as well as important family confidential doc.

Unfortunately my laptop was crashed due to virus thus no choice but formatted.
Now when I connected to Maxtor storage drive it can not be detected.


Symptom : There are two power adapter both are 240VAC input and 12VDC output.
A: is manufactured by Asian Power Device Inc
Model :
S/N XXXXXXXXX
when I connected to the hard drive no power indicator light was lit at all.

B; is manufactured by GC1 Technologies
Model no: AM1200500B
When it was connected to the hard drive: the power indicator light was lit.
But when connected to the laptop it can not be accessible.

Suspected two problems.

1. May be wrong power supply adapter is being used.
2. Or the drive is hang temporarily.
The product hard drive no is: 9NT2AG-500
S/N : 2HA47TRG

for 1. Pl advice the DC voltage requirement whether 12VDC or 9VD

Thanks for using JustAnswer

Connect the 2nd adaptor

and connect to USB

Then right click the computer icon >>Manage>>CLick on disk management

and check the external harddiak detected there as DISC 1 or not

I did as suggested. But I can't detect disk 1 as external drive. Only seen Drive C & D as partitioned only.

Please advice what is the other method.

I will try buying in Singapore for 12VDC 18W.

But I doubt it would work anyway I will try. So long as regulated power supply should work if the power suuply is the main reason.
