Hi, can you please provide more details about the issue?

Thanks.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
ok,
I have a Dell GX Optilex 280 I unplug everything from my computer cleaned it and hooked everything back start the comp again and get a page with lots of options one being start windows normally.
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
And what happens when you try to hit enter?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
it goes back to that same page
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
There should also be an option called Safe Mode - does that work?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
no none of the option on that page works
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
Did the computer suffer physical damage, moved agressively, dropped, etc?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
nope it was working fine until I unhooked everything clean it when I click on safe mode a page come up witth lots of stuff looking like chinese then it goes to my start up page with the msn logo the little dots keeps going then it goes back to the option page
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
Okay. Somehow your system was damaged, probably due to a hard disk crash.
You will need to boot from your Windows XP CD, and run a system repair.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
how do I do that I am a computer novice
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
You put the Windows XP in the CD drive, and reboot your computer. WIndows setup will start, and you follow the prompts until setup recognizes that you already have Windows installed, and asks you if you want to repair window.

There is a VERY detailed guide here:

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
ok I will try that and keep u posted of my progress
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
my computer would not boot when I put the CD in
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
What do you see on the screen when you try to boot?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
just the screen with all those options(start windows normally)and thats it
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
Okay, so that means you are not booting from the CD.
Immediately upon power up, do you see a message that says something like "for boot menu press..." or something similar?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
at the top of the page with the microsoft logo I see boot menu
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
The message I'm looking for comes before that.

Reboot your computer look at the messages that come on BEFORE you see the Windows logo. What do you see?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
I do not see anything before that
Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
There should be a key that will allow you to get to a boot menu or the BIOS settings. Reboot, and immediately try to tap F1, F2, F10 and DEL
One of these should do it.

J.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
the key F2 put me into my Bios
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Expert:  James replied 4 years ago.
Great. So Let's use F11 for the boot menu, then choose the CD ROM as the boot devide, while XP is in the drive.

I have experienced this same issue scores of times after unplugging, moving, cleaning, basically doing anything to the computer that requires any physical moving of the machine.

You will not have to reinstall Windows or boot into Safe Mode or any of that.

- Unplug everything from your computer again.
- Plug only the monitor, the keyboard and the power cable back into the computer.
- Turn the computer on.
- Does it boot into windows correctly?

Please, update me on your status and we will continue troubleshooting.

Thank you.
