Windows Live Mail Error 0x80048820 Unable to send or receive Beginning

Resolved Question:

Windows Live Mail Error 0x80048820 – Unable to send or receive

Beginning yesterday afternoon (March 11), I began receiving the following message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata account. Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please try again later.

Subject ‘Message Title’
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

I can log into my mail.live.com account via my web browser and am receiving new messages there. I can log into account.live.com and msn.com as well.
The account name and password XXXXX XXXXX in WLM/Tools/Accounts/Properties. I’ve turned off my firewall protection (McAfee Security Center) and email scanning and still get the error. I have Automatic Updates turned on so I assume WLM is up to date.

I followed the instructions in http://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=18c7c153-08b4-4bdc-8cb6-911ad9079f06, including reconfiguring my account. After adding reading a “new” account, when I attempt to download the folders, I get a slightly different error message with the same error ID (note that the account name is different – that is the actual account name):

Unable to send or receive messages for the Msn (ossenfort) account. Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please try again later.
Server Error: 0x80048820
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

I am running Win XP Pro SP3; default browser is Firefox; WLM Version 2009, Build 14.0.8089.0726. I have had no problems with Live Mail since I first started using it when the POP3 version came out.

HiCustomer Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer.

Close the windows live mail i mean exit and then go to Hotmail on the web using the internet explorer and clean out all the folders. If you want to save any messages, create a new folder
and move those messages to the new folder. Empty the thrash also.
Remember that when you restart windows live mail, it will try to sync with the new
folder status on the web, so be sure you have moved any important email to a storage folder and now it should work.

Thank you again for trusting us with your problem. Please reply as soon as possible so that we can finish answering your question.

I moved all my messages from Inbox to a new folder (Inbox Old) and emptied all other folders (Inbox, Draft, Junk, Sent, Deleted). Opened Windows Live Mail. It asks to Download folders. Clicked on Download and still got the following message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Msn (ossenfort) account. Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please try again later.

Server Error: 0x80048820
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

After this, I also did a restore to back to when this started to happen. Still no luck. Any other suggestions?

An idea: the latest error message I'm getting:
Unable to send or receive messages for the Msn (ossenfort) account. Sorry, we were unable to sign you in to Windows Live ID at this time. Please try again later.

Server Error: 0x80048820
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80048820

is from mail.services.live.com. I tried to login manually to that URL and get a HTTP Error 403.2 - Forbidden message. So I think the above message is because WLM is trying to use my Live password XXXXX access that URL and it's not accepted. This still doesn't tell me how I can download the files.

I also noticed that there is a "Sign In" option in the upper right corner of WLM when it asks me to download, but when I enter my passowrd (same one that works via the browser) it says "Sorry we were unable to sign you in at this time. Please try again later". I assume this is still the same problem in a different display. So we're still back to the original error.

Sorry - sent the last message twice.
I just noticed in Firefox Tools/Options/Advanced/Encryption/View Certificates/Servers that the *.mail.live.com certificate expired on 3/9/2010. Since I've also seen info that certificate checking in IE will cause my error with WLM, how do I go about updating the above certificate in Firefox?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Your answer didn't do what I wanted, which was to return to my original configuration with my original data. I finally set up a new account but was never able to sync with the existing messages in my online folders. I finally took all the online Inbox mail which I had moved to a temporary folder (several thousand messages) and after setting up a new account with the old name and password, moved them back to the Inbox online folder, then synched to download them. So my Inbox is now in sync. My other online files (Sent, Draft, etc.) are only visible online and I can't get them to synch with those folders on my computer.

Sorry for the delay, Please check the pop3 settings one more time for mail.services.live.com in the server settings of windows live mail it should sync.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
I am using pop3.live.com. My Inbox IS syncing, but no other folders sync. mail.services.live.com will not connect.
Expert:  mary replied 4 years ago.

Check the servers tab settings:
Incoming mail: pop3.live.com
Outgoing mail: smtp.live.com
Account name: Your complete E-mail address

Password: Your password
Log on using Secure Password XXXXX: Unchecked
My server required authentication: Checked (Important)

Advanced tab settings:
Outgoing mail: 25
SSL Connection: Checked
Incoming mail: 995
SSL Connection: Checked

It should work.

That's what I've got. I'm just disappointed that the Sent folder isn't synced. I think that's as far as we can go. Thanks.
