OK that is our problem. Please do the following.

  • 1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press R to bring up the Run window.
  • 2. Type ncpa.cpl and click OK.
  • 3. Right click your Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.
  • 4. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
  • 5. Make sure both choices are set to Obtain Automatically. If they were set to manual, click OK to save your changes, and then reboot. Check to see if your laptop connects correctly.
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I tried your steps with same no connect results. The network Diagnostics indicates

info: Zero (0.0.0.00 IP address detected
action: Automated repair: Renew IP address
action: Releasing the current IP address:
error: Error releasing the current IP address: the system cannot find the file specified
info Zero (0.0.0.0) If address detected
Action Disabling the network adapter
action Enabling the network adapter
info Network adapter successfully enabled
info Zero (0.0.0.00 IP address detected
action Manual repair: reboot modem
info Zero (0.0.0.00 IP address detected

I use the wireless card in this machine only because to hard wire it i have to run cable from next room. I want to get the hard wired connect working which has always worked better.

I found the following info in network diagnostic which may or may not help

Expert:  Erik B. replied 7 years ago.
Yes you won't be able to make any connections until the IP address comes up right. I'm afraid I am out of time tonight so I am going to opt out so another expert can take over. They should be able to get you fixed up in no time. Thanks!
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
Ok, but no one has got back to me. I can't work on it right now.

Thank You

Hello, my name is Ryan. Thank you for contacting JustAnswer, hopefully you are having a good experience so far.

This may be a winsock error please try the following:

  1. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press R to bring up the Run window.
  2. Type cmd and click OK.
  3. In the black window type in netsh int ip reset reset.log then push enter on your keyboard and it should drop to the next line so that you can type again. Now type in netsh winsock reset catalog then push enter on your keyboard and it should say that it's successfully reset the winsock catalog and ask you to reboot your computer, now close everything and restart your computer then see if you are able to connect.
If that doesn't work please let me know
