Hi,

You need to configure GMail to work with Outlook Express.

Here's a complete tutorial to do that:

i've been there already. i do not understand all the codes etc. i would like someone to walk me through it over the phone, or, step by step thay i can understand
Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Did you look at this page specfically:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76147

It has very clear step by step instructions with pictures. I probably couldn't describe it better than that.

i have done exactly what your link said to do. we are closer to combining gmail with outlook express, as we received on outlook express 1961 e mails we previously had received on gmail. i have no idea how it happened as nearly all those emails had been deleted from gmail.

sadly, i still can not email documents directly from the scanner. the scanned document goes to outlook express, and when i try to send it, the error message pops up.

what do i do?

Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Can you give me the exact error?

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
connection to server has failed,Account POP3.gmail.com, Server: smtp.gmail.com, Protocol: SMTP.port:25 Secure (SSL): No Socket error 10060 Error number 0x800CCC0E

Did you make sure to follow Steps 11 through 15 at:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76147

Those are very important and it will not work if those are not set.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

yes 11 thru 15 were fine. i don't know if it matters but step 6 did not save the entire address...just the user name

step 7 incoming and outgoing mail were both blank

step 9 just user name again, and password XXXXX blank

but all data in steps 11 - 15 were saved and accurate

Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Why would the password XXXXX blank? The password XXXXX to be saved to send or receive mail O.o

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
i have no idea why it's blank. the box marked remember password XXXXX checked. there is no place to press save....only next.....clicking finish is to save the data, and it did save all data in seps 11 - 15
Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Instead of scanning to email why don't you just scan to file and then go into gmail.com's webmail and email it that way?

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
that is what i do now. it would be nice to save the step and go directly from the scanner
Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
BTW, you did go into gmail.com, Settings and enable POP email access for your account right?

You could try downloading thunderbird and see if that will work. Once it's set to the default mail application it should open instead of outlook

To download it:

i did not go into gmail and change any settings, but i just did......tried to scan again.....

and got same error result,,,

Let me know if Mozilla Thunderbird works. It's a better program anyways.

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
the problem i contacted you for is not fixed. i still have the problem.
Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Hi,

Did you try Mozilla Thunderbird? You never responded to me.

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

no, as i told you before, i am an idiot with computers. telling me to try a different program is not what i want to do, nor what i know how to do. i don't even know what it is.

if my lexmark only defaults to outlook express, and i can not connect outlook express to g mail for scanning purposes, then so be it.

do you know factually if it can be done?

Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Hi,

Of course it can be done. But there's no good reason your GMail would not be working through Outlook Express if you entered the information correctly. I unfortunately cannot see your computer so I can't verify exactly that it's setup. I know my GMail account works through Outlook Express by following those instructions.

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
we did get gmail and outlook express synchronized, as i received about 2500 e mails on outlook that had been on g mail. but i still can't send from the scanner
Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
Right, but your problem is that you can't send email from Outlook correct? Receiving and sending are two different servers and setups.

Rob
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
just tried it....can not send e mail thru outlook
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
the inbound side is working then. how do we fix the outbound
Expert:  RPI Solutions replied 5 years ago.
