Check the printer settings
  1. In the software application you are trying to print from, click File and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Make sure that your printer is selected, and then click Preferences . The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.
  4. The Printing Shortcuts tab lists most printing needs, but you might need to modify some of the options.
    Options on the Printing Shortcuts tab include:
    • General Everyday Printing
    • Photo Printing Borderless
    • Photo Printing with white borders
    • Two Sided (Duplex) Printing
    • Presentation Printing
    • Fast/Economical Printing
    • Postcard Printing
    • Hagaki Printing
    NOTE: These are general printing shortcuts with pre-selected settings.
  5. To change the settings from those available on the Printing Shortcuts tab, click the Features or Color tab.
    Options on the Features or Color tab include:
    • Print quality : If you are unhappy with the quality of your printouts, try increasing the print quality. To print more quickly, try decreasing the print quality.
    • Paper type : If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, choose it rather than Automatic.
    • Paper size : Make sure this matches your paper.
    • Print in Grayscale : Print a document in shades of gray.
    • Orientation : Specify how the document is positioned on the page.
    • Paper Source : Select the tray that you want to use for printing.
    • Two sided printing : Print on both sides of the paper.
    • Color Management : Specify the color space for the printer to use to interpret image data.
    • Pages per Sheet : Specify the number of pages in the document to be printed on each sheet.
If you have completed all of these steps and are still experiencing a problem, continue to step four.
Calibrate the color
If the cartridges have not been refilled and none are empty, try calibrating the color.
  1. Open the printer Toolbox :
    1. Open HP Solution Center (click Start , then All Programs , then HP , then HP Solution Center ).
    2. If you have more than one printer installed, make sure to select the correct printer tab in HP Solution Center .
    3. Click Settings .
    4. Click Print Settings .
    5. Click Printer Toolbox .
  2. On the Device Services tab, click Calibrate Color , then follow the onscreen instructions. The procedure takes about two minutes and requires two sheets of paper.
Clean the printhead
If the steps above did not help, clean the printhead .
  1. Open the All-in-One Toolbox :
    1. Open HP Solution Center (click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center ).
    2. If you have more than one All-in-One installed, make sure to select the correct All-in-One tab in HP Solution Center .
    3. Click Settings .
    4. Click Print Settings .
    5. Click Printer Toolbox .
  2. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , and then follow the onscreen instructions. Three levels of cleaning are available.
If you saw no defects
If no defects appear on the diagnostic page, the cartridges and product are probably working correctly. Click here to continue troubleshooting
