Hi and welcome to JustAnswer,

Initially, postback model number and Operating System. Additionally, describe if there were any recent updates, add-on devices installed or software/p[rograms. Determine if the sound devices are displayed in the Device Manager and if the speaker icon still shows in the System Tray.

Good luck and thank you for using JustAnswer.

Toshiba laptop Satellite A300, Windows Vista, installed SoundTaxi at about the same time as I lost the sound.Downd devices are displaying like the sound is working.

Appreciate your postback and additional information.

With SoundTaxi, normally should not have any missing sound issue. Might be a coincidence or maybe a compatibility issue. Things to try:
  • try using a pair of headphones/headset;
  • uninstall SoundTaxi;
  • check if there were any sound driver updates and do a rollback.

Incidentally, was this downloaded using Torrent, if yes you may want to do a virus scan/clean.

Please postback results.

I tried your first two suggestions, neither worked.. I dont know how to check if there were any sound driver updates and do a rollback. Sorry
Expert:  Louie replied 7 years ago.
To determine driver details:
  • press on Windows key + R;
  • type " devmgmt.msc " less the quotes;
  • expand "Sound, video and game controllers" by clicking on the + sign;
  • right click on the sound device / card and right click on properties;
  • one of the options would be to roll back the driver.
Alternately, determine the exact model number (there are several A-300). Click here and choose the model number. Clicking on the Go button would open to a new page. Look for Audio Driver for Vista. Download and install.

I am downloading all new drivers now (while I was waiting for your answer) I will try your idea if mine does not work. Thanks
Expert:  Louie replied 7 years ago.
I understand. Appreciate the update.

Hi Benimur

I rolled back as per your instructions.

Have been downloading drivers (that havent installed) and have now clicked your click here button.

Im in Australia and my computer is Satellite A300/Y01 PSAGCA-02Y010 and it was not on the option list provided. I still have no sound.

Kind Regards

If haven't tried, I found another download site for the A300 (PSAGCA), pls start here, click on Mobile Computing, click on Support, click "Drivers, BIOS, Utilities, Software".

A review / checks / ideas:
  • the speaker icon is displayed on the System Tray (bottom right) with no red X mark;
  • try to disable and then enable audio device;
  • in Device Manager, do a Scan for Harware Changes;
  • the Realtek Audio devices are shown in Device Manager;
  • the "Realtek High definition Audio" is in the Device Manager;
  • there are no yellow ?! flag in Device manager;
  • try this Microsoft update;
  • Bear with me on this one: download and install Skype. Try calling somebody / anybody.

Thankyou for helping me. I have tried all of your suggestions but I still have no sound. I have loaded skype but it wont connect. What else can I do?
Expert:  Louie replied 7 years ago.
Other than a BIOS update (which I would not suggest readily), it would appear to be an issue with Toshiba's hardware and Vista and I could not proceed any further.

Sorry to have wasted your time.

Where is your new answer?
Expert:  Louie replied 7 years ago.
As earlier stated, I could not proceed with your concern.

I would then opt out to enable other members of the site to further view your post. Should there be an answer from them, tehn it would be made available.
