I click on Firefox, and nothing happens. But Task Manager

Resolved Question:

I click on Firefox, and nothing happens. But Task Manager shows Firefox running at around 50. I have tried restarting, rebooting, and reinstalling (FF 3.0.11). The information from the Mozilla website does not tell what steps to take and in what order, and is generally confusing. There is a vague reference to the user profile for troubleshooting the problem, but it makes no sense to me. Can you give me a step-by-step procedure how to fix this problem?

Windows XP Pro 32bit

First close firefox.exe from the Task Manager-> Processes tab (if it is running)

Next, use the following steps

1 Uninstall Firefox from Control Panel

2 Click Start-> Run
Type %APPDATA%\Mozilla and press Enter
A window will open
Delete the Firefox folder

Now try to reinstall Firefox and test the issue.

If the problem remains, use step 1, 2 above along with the following steps


3 Open the following folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

(where username is XXXXX XXXXX login name)

(you may need to enable show hidden files from Control Panle-> Folder Options-> View tab to view this folder)

Locate and delete two folders, Mozilla Firefox and Profiles

4 Open C:\Program Files

Locate and delete the folder Mozilla Firefox

5 Install latest version of firefox and test the issue

I just installed successfully Firefox 3.5, and it worked. Thatnk you for your help. Shame on Mozilla for making this thing so "opaque".
