Why does the screen on my computer go black after I turn it

Resolved Question:

Why does the screen on my computer go black after I turn it on. The lights come on, but it keeps going black, every time I keep turning it off and on. It takes me at least 45 min. to get it to open. It looks like it will start up, but then goes black.

HiCustomer Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer. The other Experts and I are working on your answer. By the way, it would help us to know:

-What operating system are you using?
-If you wiggle the monitor cable a little does the image on the screen change?
-Is there an error message on the monitor screen or is it just black?
-If you disconnect the monitor from the computer is there an error message on the monitor?

Thank you again for trusting us with your problem. Please reply as soon as possible so that we can finish answering your question.

I am not sure what you mean, since I am not too smart with computers.

I was using Internet Explorer, Then I went into Mozilla Firefox, and I am back with Internet

explorer.

My series is 2400

My service tag is HPYQG41

When you ask me about the monitor, do you mean the big box, and I push the button to start the computer?

Expert:  Freddy M. replied 7 years ago.
No the monitor is the screen
The big box is the computer
Your operating system is your version of windows

-What operating system are you using?
-If you wiggle the monitor cable a little does the image on the screen change?
-Is there an error message on the monitor screen or is it just black?
-If you disconnect the monitor from the computer is there an error message on the monitor?

I did jiggle the wires behing the monitor. My DSL is from our TV. The moden is working ok.

I did have Dell work on it before. And, then it worked ok. But when I first try to turn it on in the morning, then I have this problem.

Expert:  Freddy M. replied 7 years ago.
Ok well this problem is usually cause by a few different things.
The monitor cable going into the computer needs to be replaced.
The monitor itself needs to be replaced.
Or the graphics card in the computer itself needs to be replaced.

What do I do now?
Expert:  Freddy M. replied 7 years ago.
If you have another monitor cable try using that first as that is the easiest to test. If not you will have to bring the computer to a repair center to have it checked by a technician.

What do I do now?

I will just continue with this situation, until something happens. It only happens when I first start the computer.

I cannot fathom what it costs to take it to a technician.

Expert:  Freddy M. replied 7 years ago.
As long as the problem is not the monitor it should be no more than $100
