Why do the speakers on my monitor have a echo or reverb effect

This answer was rated:

Why do the speakers on my monitor have a echo or reverb effect? How do I remove it?
You might have the mic on.

Go to start -> Control Panel.
Then go to Sounds and Audio Devices.
Click the Advanced button under 'Device Volume'
Then click 'Mute' under microphone.

Your microphone will still work fine after you do that. That setting just blocks the sound from coming back out through the speaker.

ok, now I'm really lost. I went to control panel, looked for sounds and audio devices. I found sounds, but no audio devices. i went in, but no 'device volume. I looked under several tabs, and thought I had plugged the moniter plug into the wrong port on my tower and moved it. no sound at all. I moved it back and still no sound.
Your monitor plug should be plugged into the green port.

What operating system are you using?

Try this instead:

Click Start, and type the following in the 'Start search' field: sndvol32

Then, click mute under the microphone, and make sure that the volume is turned on for the others.

ok. i apologize for being so illiterate. when i went to the sndvol32, I brought up several entries. which one should i click on that will show me mute under the microphone?
Go to option-> properties. and then make sure that Microphone is checked there, and you should be able to see it after you do that.

i'm sorry...I'm just lost. you say go to option- then properties, but where?
I'm sorry about that, but I just remembered that this is a little different in Vista.

Luckily, I was able to find a picture walkthrough of what you need to do:

Let me know if that works or not.

Just curious. Did that fix it?
