How do I know if I have Excel on my computer

Customer Question

How do I know if I have Excel on my computer?

Hi,

Excel is part of Microsoft Office package. One way to find is to look in Start-> All Programs.

If it is not there, try the following:

Click Start-> Run
Type excel and press Enter

If it does not help, and you need to open a Excel file, then you can use the Excel Viewer from the following link:

Link

Please also read the installation instruction on the above link.

I hope this will help

Thanks

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I tried your suggestion, and the answer stated that it cannot be found by using - run-excel-. But I did discover that a spreed sheet can be found thru - Excel - search -

Have you tried the Excel Viewer that I mentioned earlier.

It will allow you to open Excel files even if you do not have Excel installed.

Another option is to use Open Office which is a free software package and can be used to open/ edit files created with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and many more.

The download link is

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I just tried to download the link you suggested, and the response was that I did not have enough disc space.

This alert comes up at least once a day. I don't know how to release more disc space without jeopardizing other programs I have. Can you help me?

Expert:  Santonu replied 5 years ago.
Okay, please try this:

Click Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Disk Cleanup

Make sure that C drive is selected and click Ok.

When the disk cleanup process completes, it will free up some space in your computer.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
I do this almost every morning when I turn on my computer. Once the cleanup window finishes, a window will show a list, which I check off all and the cleanup starts. Then another questions asks if i wish to free up more space. If I check yes, the add/delete shows up and there is my delima, I don't know what to delete, without jeopardizing other programs, hence I never seem to have enough disc space.
Expert:  Santonu replied 5 years ago.
If you are not sure about the programs, try to move any music or video files to a CD or flash drive to free up space.

Also look under My Documents and try to move any unused files from there.

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
I deleted all pictures, videos, etc. Tried to download the link again, and I still do not have enough space. Required twice more than I could delete. HELP!
Expert:  Santonu replied 5 years ago.
Please let me know the following:

1 The free space available on your C drive

2 Do you have any other drive like D. If yes then the free space available on that.

3 The name of programs under Control Panel-> Add or Remove Programs, which you do not use

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Where do I find these amounts to let you know?

Expert:  Santonu replied 5 years ago.
Okay, before that, there is another option to free up some space.

Windows stores a snapshot of your system in restore points. Over a long period, this can take 1-2 GB of space.

Since you do not have much space left on your drive, please try the following:

Click Start-> Run
Type sysdm.cpl and press Enter
Click on System Restore tab
Click Turn off System Restore on all drives check box
Click Apply and Ok

Restart your computer. Now turn on system restore by:

Click Start-> Run
Type sysdm.cpl and press Enter
Click on System Restore tab
Click Turn off System Restore on all drives check box to uncheck it
Click Apply and Ok

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner.

I tried your latest suggestion - run - sysdm.cpl - shut down, went back to turn off System Restore tab ..... as soon as I booted up, the low disc space sign came on!

Prior to this I deleted every picture, large documents, etc. I felt that I could possibly do without. I even deleted them from my waste bin. Followed your instructions from above and still that reminder about low disc space came up! HELP!

Expert:  Santonu replied 5 years ago.
Please open My Computer.

Right click on C drive, click Properties

Please let me know the amount of Used and Free space listed there

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Used space: 55.6gb

Free space: 166mg

Expert:  Santonu replied 5 years ago.
Yes this is the problem.

First make sure that you deleted the files from the Recycle Bin. Right click on Recycle Bin and click Empty Recycle Bin

Next, please try the following:

Click Start-> Run
Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter

The Add or Remove Programs window will open.

Now look for programs you do not use any more and select Uninstall/ Remove

If you are not sure which programs you want to remove please let me know the name of those

The programs you listed should not take that much space which can create this problem. I think these are also essential programs.

Please try the following once more:

Click Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Disk Cleanup

Make sure that C drive is selected and click Ok
Click on More Options
Under System Restore, click on Clean up, click Yes.

Click Start-> Search-> Files and folders
Click on Picture, music and video
make sure that the following check boxes are checked
Music
Video

Click on Search.
Wait for the search to complete
In the search result, locate and delete any unnecessary video file (try to remove files with bigger file size like > 200 MB)

Done that, empty the Recycle Bin once more and restart your computer.

I hope this will solve the problem

After all of that, I am showing 260mb, as previous 166mb
