The bios of my TOSHIBA SATELLITE A205 s4777 don´t recognize my hard drive. If I enter the bios and exit saving the settings, It exits and loads windows normally, but I have to do that every time I turn on the laptop! How can I fix it or reset the cmos?
OS: Windows XP; Browser: Firefox Already Tried: Loading bios defaults
Hi,Is there any problem with date/time on your laptop? Is it keeps the date/ time settings properly or did you need to set the date/time everyday. Thanks
The date/time settings are o.k, the only problem is that I have to enter the bios everytime I turn on the laptop in order to enter windows. If I try to install windows again, installation says there is no hard drive.
After you enter the bios setup, do you need to change any settings or do you just save and exit setup?
No, I don´t change anything, I just save and exit and it enters windows. If I don´t enter the bios, I got a message saying there is no operating system, It can´t find the hard disk.
I think the problem you are facing can be fixed by a bios update. But I must warn you that a failed bios update can make your laptop unusable. It is advisable to contact Toshiba for bios update. If you like to go ahead, the link to download the latest bios for your laptop is:http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1846423xml&sliceId=&dialogID=68220012&stateId=1%200%2068216568Be very carefull before proceeding. Thanks
Is there a way I can reset the bios ?
Enter your bios setup and look for any option such as Restore Defaults or Restore Default Settings. If found select it and press enter. After that save and exit setup.Otherwise let me know what options do you find in bios setup
I loaded the defaults, but the bios still doesn´t recognize the hard drive.
Can you tell me from when this problem started
about a week ago. It started after a power failure. I am flashing the bios with the update you told me about.
Be very carefull. Remember to connect the charger while you flash the bios.
I think something is wrong. I followed all the instructions and it started flashing the bios, It got to the part that says verifying block 2 of 17, and then the screen frozed. It is not responding. The progress line also frozed.
There is definately a problem with bios. Thats why I told you to contact Toshiba earlier. Anyway wait for atleast 5 minutes. Then turn off the laptop by pressing and holding down the power button.Restart it and see how it goes. Freezing of the laptop during bios flash is not a good sign.
I re started the laptop and tryed it again, it freezes when flashing the bios.
Please restart your laptop. Don't try to update bios again. It will not complete flashing.Try to start windows and see if it runs properly
windows runs ok, but if I turn off the laptop, when I turn it on It can´t find windows or the hard drive.
What I have observed about the problem is this:1 Hard Disk not detecting when starting your laptop - This can occur if there is some problem with BIOS. Since the problem started after a power failure which sometimes corrupt the bios, I told you to try update the bios.2 The BIOS update fails - This can occur if there is a problem with the BIOS chip or if there is any setting enabled which prevents updation of BIOS.Anyway, I would suggest to contact Toshiba suppot once again. Updating BIOS is always a risky procedure and often leads to unpredictable results.I am sorry that I could not offer you much help with this issue. Thanks
