Hi,

What type of scanner do you have?

Do you know if you have an OCR progrm installed on your computer?

What operating system do you use?

Are you using Word Pad or Microsoft Word?

Let us know

Thanks

Customer replied1885 days and 14 hours ago.

Ihave an HP J5780 All-in-one. I'm pretty sure I have OCR. I have a Gateway notebook using microsoft OfficeHome and Student softwear which has WordPad.

Ok,

On your desktop or in your programs you should have a shortcut to your HP desktop manager software.

Open the Desktop Manager and click Settings, then Scan Document Settings .

Click the Editable Text Settings tab and select Framed Text.

Ensure that the proper language is set in the OCR Language drop-down list and then click OK and close the manager window.

Next reopen the Desktop Manager and Click Scan Document . The Scan document window should open, So in the Scan Document window select In the "What are you scanning?" section, select Editable Text with Graphics for color documents or Editable Text for black and white documents.

In the "Where do you want the scan to go?" section, select word from the drop-down list.

Click Scan .

When the scan has completed, word should open displaying the scanned text.

Let me know if that does not work.

Thanks

Is it okay to try this before I accept?

Sure,

Actually I prefer if you would wait as if it does not work we may have to try some other steps and I would like you to be 100% satisfied before you accept.

Thanks

Customer replied1885 days and 13 hours ago.

I think I did everything right but WordPad shows up but with no text.

Hmmm,

Did you choose Word or Wordpad?

If you chose Wordpad could you try to select Word.

Also did it open the word program by itelf when you finished scanning?

Customer replied1885 days and 12 hours ago.

I chose WordPad which open the word processing window, but without any scanned text. I saw no direction for selecting "word". Sorry I'm late in replying, I had a long phone call.

That is fine,

Do you have Word installed as part of your office package?

Could you try to download and install the atest drivers and software for your machine from here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-48994-3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3301296&os=228&lang=en

Once it is installed could you reboot and try to scan again.

Thanks

Customer replied1885 days and 12 hours ago.

The Office Home & Student Softwear contains Word 2007, Excel 2007, Power Point 2007, & OneNote 2007.

Customer replied1885 days and 12 hours ago.

Isn't Word & WordPad the same and/or do the same tasks?

They are both slightly different programs with Word having a lot more features and tools.

Check out these wiki links for the differences:-

Wordpad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WordPad

Word http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Word

Thanks
