A company with less than 50 employees is often reffered to as an SME (Small or Medium Enterprise). The financial status of a company can also effect how it would be classifed.

Many different countries had their own definition of an SME but recently the EU has standardised it.

Companies with less than 50 employees are considered a "small" business and companies with less than 250 "medium"
