Thank you for responding to my post.
Did you go to your desktop and right click mouse? Do you see "Arrange Icons by"? If so, click on that - and then you will see "show desktop icons"....you need to make sure that it is checked....this should restore your desktop icons.
Otherwise, click on "Start" - go to "Settings" then "Control Panel" - then "Display" then "Desktop" - then "Customize Desktop" check off the items you wished displayed on your desktop - or click on "restore default" and click on "ok"....your icons should be restored...you may need to restart your computer....
If you have any further questions, please let me know.

1. There is no "show desktop icons".
2. >click on "Start" - go to "Settings" then "Control Panel" - >then "Display" then "Desktop" - then "Customize Desktop" There is no "Desktop" and so no "Customise Desktop".
Windows 98 sometimes has problems with corrupt desktop icon files. Go to your control panel and see if there is an icon labeled "TweakUI". If there is not follow this link, and download and install TweakUI.
Once you have that program installed, you can access it from your control panel. Once you start tweakUI, select Repair, select Rebuild Icons, then click Repair Now. Then restart windows.
From TweakUI you can also select which icons to display from the desktop tab.
Let me know if this works or if you need further help!
